What does /tv/ think of The Purge series? I've never seen any but I have to admit the trailer for the most recent one has got me curious. Still seems a stupid idea, but the weirdly political angle of the most recent one looks interesting.

I liked the concept more when it was done by Takashi Miike. Far less edgy despite being more grimdark.
First was overhyped gargage- "Look at all this crazy shot going on outside! Our movie takes place in this house with 5 characters!"

It would make a great tv show. Give it a 24 gimmick where each season focuses on different characters from different parts of the country. Each episode is an hour in the purge we see how these different people handle it.

OP here, after seeing the first trailer I couldn't help but think that if you wanted to do anything to actually fuck with America, like a terrorist act or a foreign attack, the purge is basically the perfect time. The thing that makes ZERO sense to me (aside from the property damage and body cleanup being viable) is no fire department. There would have to be those water helicopters everywhere or there would just be a nationwide holocaust because some retard threw a Molotov wrong and lit up a neighborhood. That on top of the purposeful fires from pyromaniacs would just be too much I would think.

The running theme of these movies, going by the trailers, seems to be that the purge is just an authoritarian government trying to reduce the number of poor people in the country. Its not really 'no rules', its actually just a closed arena for the poor people to kill each other in. Hell Rick and Morty did an episode that pretty much summed all this up.

Purge 2 was fucking amazing for me because i just pictured it as a punisher movie.
Punisher walking around during a purge is probably the coolest thing ever.
