We go through a cycle of audiences wanting campy vs serious superhero media & comics

>1960's-80's = campy
>1980's - early 2000's = serious
>late 2000's - present = campy
This is ONE of the reasons BvS got ravaged, Snyder was writing a 2005 superhero movie 11 years too late. People want camp, quips, minimal stakes, and pure PG-13 clean action
Interestingly enough post-war it usually coincides with campy when a Democrat is in power, dark when a republican is in power. If Trump wins people will appreciate Snyder's kino and become disgusted by Marvel's quipfests.
