Yeah I'm done with this series.

They never should've gone ahead of the books.

Literally everything suffers. The dialogue, the drama, the conflicts, the intrigue, the character development - everything.

Half the time I feel like I'm watching an SNL skit. The rest of the time it's a high school play, complete with awkward pauses, out-of-character moments, predictable plot progression and obvious filler lines that wouldn't pass for clever writing on a CW show.

And it's just so boring, all of it. I literally don't care anymore what happens next or why.
>>
its written for women
what did you expect?
>>
How come every single scene now starts with an awkward silence and quips. It's like they're actually writing their lack of creativity into the script.
>>
Who #teamcersei here? She's only female character well written enough to admire. Before they eventually kill her off i hope she crushes one more of her foes ruthlessly. Then I can ignore this shit show as it panders it way to Dany taking on ice zombies with bran warging in the dragons and winning westeros. Yawn.

I'm an extremely casual viewer of the show but I've noticed a shift in quality and nuance with characters, who are really the foundations of any show in its sixth season. They have become characatures. Varys isn't smart or cunning, he's a eunuch. The dwarf isn't a rhetor, he's a dwarf. Jamie Lannister isn't conflicted or learned from his travels, he's a body guard.
>>
>>69681540
It was a callback, retard! That happened in the first season.

Coming from anime... it seems like a massive "no shit".

Whenever anime goes off an ongoing manga/light novel/whatever, they turn to complete anus once they go off-source.

You need proper writers, not just some jerks who were in charge of tv-izing something.
>>
>>69681641
It is still a contemporary drinking game that has no place in a fictional fantasy world that mimics medieval Europe. It's like having the dialog "See ya later, bro" in a film set in ancient Egypt. It's poor, lazy writing.

See the difference, faggot?

Also, I doubt anyone complained the first time.

Femanon here. Used to love this show but dropped it so hard.

Cersei is the best portrayal of a female character. Bar-none. She's strong, independent and a manipulative mastermind who knows how to play the Game of Thrones like a pro. As someone who likes to self-insert into her character since I'm a total mean bitch like her, I find it stupid and meaningless the way they mistreated her in the show. Putting one of the strongest female characters into a position where she has to face humiliation and drink dirty floor water really shows how sexist and anti-feminist the show creators are. Just look at how they treated the sand snakes. They set them up as strong, pro-feminist characters with qualities setting them apart from the sheep, but in the next episode they are revealed to be submissive 10/10's here-are-the-tits-for-all-the-man-pigs-watching-the-show. Not saying that sand snakes were the best characters since I think Cersei is the by far the best feminist-friendly character in any tv show to date, but the way the creators treat female characters like pieces of meat or submissive and humiliating roles really shows the black ooze lurking in their sexist little heats. I can't see the show anymore since I get triggered everytime I see Cersei getting mistreated. I'm sorry but the strong sexism and anti-feminism currently surrounding Cersei just made me quit the show and (and we all know how anti-feminist this board is) this board.

Dogshit, her own Dad accurately summates her character as "you're not as smart as you think". Cersei believes herself to be this political genius, but she's just very good at acting like she knows what's going on. Everything she does explodes in her face.

Exactly this. And every character is basically black and white in terms of character and who is on whose side.
It is now very clearly X vs X, Y vs Y etc. There's no nuance. The best part of Game of Thrones was the political game and not knowing exactly who to trust or who was on whose side. And no, that's not le shock value if D&D are here.
I know it has to change slightly due to the attention slowly being drawn to the common threat beyond the wall, but still, it's lost all nuance
>>
>>69687935

Agreed massively.

The nuance is dead, now this is just your typical medieval fantasy show.

Do youse think D&D did a good job with the first few seasons?

When they were literally working 100% from source material, I unironically enjoyed it a lot. There were a few things I wasn't too keen on, but as adaptations go it was pretty good. Then we started to see more and more deviations from the book, and the show progressively turned to shit imo.

This is what George RR martin is inevitably going to do in his books and he's struggling to find a way to integrate the main conflict of the series into his novels which are basically political thrillers. He can't. It's been 20 years since the series was started and the others have still done jack-all. Game of thrones/ASOIAF will invariably have a disappointing ending because the fantasy element of the series has always been it's weakness

I'm not done with it yet. But I get what you mean by it feeling like an SNL sketch. They're laying the humor and awkwardness too thick, when they could be using that time to build the characters up, and set-up future events. But it feels like they've stopped building, and now it's only resolutions. We have nothing to look forward to beyond the very shortsighted conflicts resolving themselves.

>>69688086
I don't think the universe had a choice. For all of it's faults, you honestly could not expect a better adaptation than what we got seasons 1-5. No one else would have done anything close to what the show did. And if they didn't start when they had, then the crew and casting would most certainly have been a lot worse.

It's GRRM's fault for not finishing the books. If he just finished TWOW on time, then he could have done the final book just before the show's final season went into production. Or at least have had enough written to feed the show writers good material.
>>
>>69691129

Season 4: "Hm. We still have some stuff to work with here, but where is it all going? I don't know. But we can't set up too much, or else we might write ourselves into a corner."

Season 5: "Uhm... What do we do now? We have no idea where this is going. What the hell is supposed to happen to Jaime? When is Arya supposed to advance beyond Braavos? Meereen is completely fucked up, and Dany is flown of, how do we bring that story around? What happens when Victarion reaches Meereen? Who wrote that letter? How do we bring Jon back? SHOULD we bring Jon back? What's Doran planning? Fuckfuckfuckfuckfuck, we have to figure this all out."

Season 6: "Screw it. Revive Jon. Kill Doran, fuck his plan. Kill Myrcella too many Lannister kids. Kill Bolton, Ramsay needs to be Warden of da Norf. Fuck man, writing these characters are hard, let's just make them look at each other in awkward silence. That way, we don't have to think of dialog."

>>
>>69691976
DnD have an idea of where George is going with the story. Jon was always going to be brought back, and Ramsay killing Roose has been foreshadowed. They might not follow the exact same path to get there, but the destination will be the same.

Cutting Dorne was due to budgetary/time constraint, shooting on the Dorne sets was expensive as hell and the Spanish government was fucking them every step of the way, so they just cut the entire plot
>>
>>69692016
Yes, and? Renly was a little fuccboi in the books. But his death caused waves that affected the stories of other characters.
>>
>>69692088
Perhaps they have some idea where it's going. But they can't plot out the story well enough to give it those long foreshadowing details. Because the future is still murky.

Besides, a lot of the entertainment is seeing how the story play out. Not just where it ends up. The earlier seasons played out very closely to the books. The later seasons deviated more and more. Now, it's become obvious that TV writers are trying to fill massive gaps.

There's a difference between adapting events into a show, and creating events for a show. The creation part is hard. But that's what GRRM's material contributed to the show.
>>
>>69692101
And the death of Roose didn't affect anyone or anything?

Barely. It only passed the torch from one soulless bastard to another more reckless soulless bastard. Instead of attacking blahdeeblah, they're going to attack bloodeebloo. His death made no matter.

Not only that, but the death was lame. Roose just so happens to be eating during the birth of his child. Roose didn't know that his mad dog bastard child he's been insulting, might be a little upset over the birth of a true born. Roose didn't keep any guards or trusted men nearby. Roose gets stabbed once, and has zero fight left in him. Ramsay kills the mother and child on the same day, with witnesses around, and this is never taken notice of.

The devil really is in the details.

This...

54 hours of high production level content has been created and viewership is unprecedented... Normies and NEETS alike are into it.

Season 5 gave some pretty excellent battle scenes... Better than most feature film battle scenes... That Stannis North of the wall pincer... Season 6 is building up for similar things.

Everyone keeps acting like there was some high-level narrative story telling going on in 2,3,4 and 5... But all that was really happening is main characters getting shockingly murdered or raped out of nowhere... This isn't groundbreaking. It's the same shit and it shouldn't be expected to change. Just enjoy the story arc and the handful of meaningful scenes that occur each season... Cause that's all this is.

She was better in the books where she is far more comically inept.
>Scheming to bring down Bronn because he named Lollys kid Tyrion only for him to become even more rich and influential.
>Giving her entire expensive new fleet to an untrustworthy bastard who absconds with it to become a pirate king.
>Refusing to pay the crowns debts to the iron bank which causes much of Westeros' economy to immediately tank as the bank starts calling in all their debts in Westeros while offering to arm the crowns enemies to overthrow them.
>Arming the faith militant.
>Further fucking up the kings guard.
>Wrecking what's left of her families alliances.
>Giving every one of her failed lackeys over to Qyburn to add to his growing Frankenstein dungeon.
It just goes on and on all while she sits smugly in the red keep, getting drunk and thinking what a clever mastermind she is.

The death was stupid and lame, totally ruining Roose's character. It's a shame that such a fine actor as McElhatton had to quit the show in such a lame way. One may say Roose Bolton was killed twice - by stabbing and by totally undermining his intelligence.

Q: What would be your favourite kind of death in the series?
A:[...] I just don't wanna be stabbed, that's a little bit too obvious
>>
At S5 I started looking at it like a comedy/cheese. I cannot imagine what a normie who hasn't red the books would see in this.

One of my overall biggest problems is that nobody has a plan. Or if they have something it is total shit. You call your series the fucking Game of Thrones! Is this a game to you?
>>
Now that they've shown Based Mace back in King's Landing, it would be nice to see some sort of reaction to Meryn Trant's brutal ritualistic murder. I know they probably didn't like him much, but he was a member of a prestigious order of warriors. They really ought to be investigating what happened to him. Right now it doesn't seem like anything anyone does has an effect on any other location.
>>
>>69698567
It would have been a lot better if he had gone out onto the battlefield and was killed by Stannis.
At least then you could have Brienne find him standing over Roose's body, the guy who helped orchestrate and kill the woman she'd sworn to serve, and have her have to deal with a bit of internal conflict over wanting to kill him for what he did to Renly.

What scene made you drop the show?
For me it was this., just how absurd it is. So somehow she gets to the northern castle with a boat from the Iron Island in a few days (?).
Bare in mind this scene had a proper build up scene, emphasizing how she's going to take the meanest islanders to save her brother, the heir to the throne.
Then this guy pops up, shirtless, dual wielding, and JUMPS into a group of armorded soldiers, and gets out unharmed with a smug pepe face.

>>
>>69706740
No, but it's foreshadowed fuck load more than it was in the show to the point book readers had already decided he was coming back before it was ever televised. Stuff to do with Jon skinchanging and Melisandre seeing him go from a man, to a wolf, to a man again and being the Prince that was Promised.

In the books it's been predicted to involve a combination of Jon being warged into Ghost and Melisandre reviving the body by sacrificing Shireen who is still at Castle Black. It's been done differently in the show as Jon isn't a warg and they had Stannis bring Shireen with him and burnt her himself.

In fact George made it so obvious, he felt it would be dishonest to ever outright tell anyone that Jon is dead in an interview. He just tells you to read more carefully and make your own mind up. That's why when HBO took the opposite approach and kept telling everyone he was plain dead, everyone was suspicious as fuck because there was already overwhelming evidence he'd be back in TWOW. It's definitely not just a show thing, even if its been unpublished so far.

>>69688465
Season 1 was legitimately very good. No coincidence that it was the most loyal to the books by far, but it also had top notch leads (Mark Addy, Sean Bean, Harry Lloyd).

Season 2 was a noticeable drop in quality. It was painfully obvious D&D had a personal vendetta against a fictional character (Stannis). His opening in the second book made for perfect television, instead they pushed it to the middle of the opener like an afterthought. Qarth was a clusterfuck of epic proportions. Only thing handled well was Theon's arc and Blackwater (prob best episode in the series).

Season 3 was better on the whole than 2 but could not reach the peaks of Blackwater.

Seasons 4-5 were mostly terrible. Oftentimes laughably bad writing, poor characterization, deviating from superior source content for no reason, confusing casting replacements (Daario, third Mountain), etc.

Season 6 has actually been alright. Episode 1 was a flaming turd but the past three have been entertaining and the past episode actually had some intrigue (something the show has lacked for some time).
>>
>>69707996
I agree with this assessment.

D&D clearly don't understand some of the characters though. Ramsay is a clear example; in the books he's quite monstrous and has a base cunning, but he's feral and lacks true foresight. He certainly is no shirtless dagger OP or 20 good men meme generator like he is on the show.

They don't understand any of the characters. They just liked the lolsurprise aspect of the novels. The reason they made the show was to film the Red Wedding. They don't give a shit about crafting a good story or exploring the world (or human nature for that matter). To be a good writer one must possess some degree of self-awareness and be capable of introspection. D&D are arrogant, self-righteous hollow men. Actually, I don't think they even understand characterization (probably the most essential aspect of making great television).

>>69708242
The show is playing it extremely straight and simple. There is no subterfuge. That is not a good thing. However, the Jews have made it painfully clear they cannot construct a complex narrative. They are succeeding at making a mediocre television show. Better than failing miserably at making a good/great television show (though not quite as amusing).

Season 4 and 5 were partly so awful because you knew they could be so much better.

Season 6 is just entertainingly middle-tier, like it's past the event horizon of bad television so nothing it does now can really "kill" the show because the show's already dead. I guess you could complain about it desecrating its corpse, but corpse-fuckery isn't as severe a crime as murder.
