Police cold case story with a twist ending. Can't say much more without giving it way, but the acting is really good and the storyline keeps you on your toes. It won best foreign film oscar.

It also has nothing to do with the remake though but that's not their fault. North Americans never had any context remotely similar to the one depicted on the original movie so adapting it to their culture would be difficult because the plot highly depends on it.
Changing the context changes everything in this case.
