I've been going through some subreddits during work since 4chan is blocked and yeah, a lot of what I've seen is that a huge chunk of reddit hates him for having outlandish theories, and these are the same fanboys that want R+L=J, Jon Azor Ahai, etc to happen.

Preston started being good when he has risen above the overview of ASOIAF text (something that has been done for years by many people, and circlejerked for years - westeros.org has more than a hundred R+L=J threads), and did what nobody has done before him (except for RLJers seeking for the name "Lyana") and analyzed GRRM's other works, finding themes, characters, and concepts similar to what is seen in ASOIAF, finding the underlying principles of GRRM's writing that explain why characters like Ned, Robb or Stannis die, while Sansa, Sam or Theon survive all hardships.
This "discovery", so to speak, has shaken the ground under many 'theories', none of which tried to cross-analyze GRRM's works (except for, again, Lyanna theories).
