dimachaerus gladiators didn't wield two longswords, they used either gladii or sica which are much shorter and lighter than european longswords like what dayne used
wieldiness is one half of quickness, even if you're the worlds strongest and talented swordfighter you'll still flail around like a retarded baby if you're hoisting around two unwieldy weapons in opposite directions. longswords are well balanced, correct, but that balance assumes there's a proper stance and full arm behind the weight. if you're using two, you aren't in a proper stance, your arms aren't set to bear two, and your swings will either be wild and imprecise or precise and light as a feather.

dimachaerus fighters weren't ever intended to be some great example of hella viable warfare. gladiators were intended to please a crowd, it was literally the entire purpose of their lives being that they were slaves. that meant they had to look cool and also appeal to the plebs in the audience as some wicked cool display of slashy shit.
fun fact, gladiators didnt choose their weapons or fighting style. they literally had video game style classes that were decided for them and then they were trained thusly. these classes were loosely based from other cultures with some being much more realistic than others. they're interesting and 'cool' weapon combos pitted against one another for the sheer sake of giving the crowd something bloody and visceral to watch.
plus, the matchups were carefully chosen too. dimachaerus (dual wielding, if you're particularly slow and forgot) typically only ever fought OTHER dimachaerus, or samnite (rectangle shield and gladius) or hoplomachus (round shield and shortsword). rarely ever fought any other styles, yknow why? cause they'd fucking die in 3 seconds and it'd not be entertaining for anybody to watch.
