Why are comedies never given the same respect dramas are?
Not sure, It seems to be harder to write comedy than it is to write drama.
it's assumed that it's easier to be funny than to make an engaging and interesting dramatic story. A joke can pay off a couple of lines later, but dramas require much greater time investment.
Dramas have to try hard to make an epic complex story lasting seasons while comedies just have to make you laugh for 20 minutes. Not that it's easier or anything, it's just that people are tricked into seeing ambition and production value as quality.

Why are comedies never given the same aspect ratio that dramas are?

trying to keep costs down I assume
comedies are given way too much respect
As a huge comedy fan I think only a comedy like dr. strangelove could ever compete against an out-right drama.
I'm also of the opinion that comedy is circumstantial, and that a "comedy movie" can never on its own right be great.
I know it sounds pretentious but I'm sure I'm correct.
I think to make a truly great comedy takes way, way more effort than a truly great drama, like it has to be a genuine 10/10 like pic related.
Comedies are like anime, landfill of shit, handful of gold.
Comedy is more subjective. What some people find funny, other's wont. So it's harder to get a consensus on what a 10/10 comedy would be.

Cause of the Adam Sanders effect. No more good comedies like Leslie Nielsen ones
