Star Wars was always overrated sentimental action schlock that appealed to just about everyone. It wasn't great or important but still managed to change the way studios made big movies forever. One of the things that is missing from JJ's remake is any sense of originality either within the story or visually, which was one of the huge appeals of star wars. It's all throwbacks and references and stolen imagery.
Also the soundtrack was weak. WEAK.
