Because Big Bang Theory is homogenous and american - built to appeal to the absolute lowest common denominator. Its main characters can't possibly be losers because in the eyes of the money powered execs running the show no one could every possibly want to cheer for total losers.
So none of the geeks are actually unattractive. They're all witty (in-story anyway, not actually in writing) and successful. They all have super model girlfriends and get laid constantly. They are the male equivalent of the supermodel wearing glasses and a sweater and being called the ugly girl in generalized american highschool drama #845.
Its one of the big differences i've noticed between american and british comedy. British comedy is absolutely okay with having the main characters be miserable, flawed, terrible losers of human beings and then laughing at the shit they get up to.
