Dream Warriors is pretty goddamn close to the first one though, I almost put them as equal.
I hated how the Remake made him molest the kids too. That movie was bullshit. The best Nightmare movie is the 3rd, finally got to see the kids fighting back and it easily had the best deaths in the franchise.

There's still more than a few hints of it in the original film.
Most recognizable example is the tongue through the phone.
I never really cared for the idea of Freddy explicitly being characterized as pedophile. I think the simple allusions to him being a sexual predator in the first film had a lot more impact, but that's just me.
I always assumed snuffing out a frightened, innocent youth that would've had their whole life ahead of them - were it not for him - was what really got his rocks off. Anything less than that just doesn't seem as scary, even with the "neighborhood child killer" angle.
