So in this context, it wasn't a secret as to the strength of Naboo's defenses. It's not hard to figure out. There's no reason at all for the Trade Federation to have not landed directly in the city other than there needed to be a bullshit reason for Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan to meet Jar Jar.

All of the time and money spent on this battle scene and all it really boiled down to was Jar Jar stumbling about killing droids with clumsiness while Anakin pushes buttons at random and takes out a control ship. This is my biggest problem with the prequels and early cgi movies in general. Characters luck their way through dozens of near death experiences in a 2hr movie because directors mistake falling over and dodging cgi laserbolts/monster bites/falling boulders repeatedly for tense action. The dino-stampede in King Kong and any action scene from pirates of the Caribbean spring to mind.

explaining where his body goes, he can't fit in the damn thing. His legs are too wide to be placed in from up top or even be in there with his head once seated.

well this is the case regardless. separating his head after he's inside won't solve the problem of getting the rest of his body in there in the first place.

HD cameras make everything look CG. No filmgrain makes everthing uncanny. Adding artificial filmgrain on CG diffuses the plasticy quality. 48fps film has a similar problem, which is why The Hobbit's CGI looks wonky.

This. Characters getting into bad situations by chance and coincidence is good, characters getting out of bad situations by chance and coincidence is the worst fucking thing ever. The entire movie is the later.
>jedi let out by chance because the droids are too stupid to leave the door closed and let the gas kill them. If they didnt read the script the door would be kept shut and they both would be dead. Story is over
>by chance they encounter jar jar right away and are able to make it to the other side of the planet, if they didnt encounter jar jar what was their plan
>by chance they encounter the princes being escorted to some other place for no reason but to be found by the jedi who shouldnt be there
>by chance they land on the one planet that has baby space jesus on it
>maul knows where the jedi are on the planet but for no reason waits till they are just about to leave to attack them, he missed a whole lot of opportunity in the city because the script was to busy on pod racing and meandering and when that finished they remember Maul was suppose to show up, so did it when it was of least consequence to the story
Im sure theres more but thats what I remember.

Its sad when there is so much CGI work done to something that has been crafted that it looks fake. Reminds me of the newer The Thing where they made all these real props and prosthetics, but were contractually bound to use the CGI of the studio, so it all looked fake as fuck because it was all touched up too much.

Despite what most may believe, Revenge of the Sith was and incredibly powerful film. There's no scene more charged with raw emotion and raw power than the duel between Obi-Wan and Anakin on Mustafar in the whole of cinema in the last 30 years.

That might be an oversell, but I tell you what that scene is not appreciated enough. Fastest fight in any of the movies. It should probably stay that way too - but man would I love more prequel-style fights.

That's kind of the point, the story of how Anakin was found. It really doesn't matter he's found by chance. Jar jar again is fine because an adventure story there's no problem with them bumping into a random person who can help them out.

The others I agree with though.

>are you guys implying that 99% of cgi isn't shit?
No. What's being implied is that Lucas should have used more practical effects, except where cgi can't be avoided, like for example Nolan does in all his movies, even Inception and Interstellar (some parts are cgi because it's impossible to do practical).
Star wars episode 3 had a budget of over 100 million dollars. I'm guessing he used it all on cgi, when he could have used it on practical sets instead.

Bumping into jar jar wouldve been fine if he wasnt so pivotal to the entire story from then out. Seriously, if they didnt happen to bump into him at that moment they wouldve been stranded, the gungans wouldnt have been there to fight off the droids and the princess wouldve been escorted to that camp because they wouldnt have got there in time. Everything was averted by tripping over a character that just happened to be strolling about in the forest where noone was suppose to be.
>>
>>69199475
He's even more douchey without sound

>>

But he wasn't pivotal. He was just an random alien they basically forced to escort them. He didn't do anything except show them the way to the gungan city, that's it.

It really isn't that big of an issue they catch a lucky break and bump into an random local, they would have eventually anyway.

Darth maul just doing nothing is contrived, the doors just being open is contrived, but jar jar as a plot device was honestly fine (as a humour character however...)
