Why do people pretend to like this shit show? Is it because it seems incredible compared to family guy?

I liked the middle seasons, the characters grew on me and had genuine personalities. It's not as good as it was, but I still get a laugh out of every episode.
It's a decent rewatchable sitcom and yes.
I think it's better than anything out there
The early seasons are pretty funny

it's pretty fucking decent m8.

Funniest animated show on television apart from early Simpsons.

Roger is a funny character, and his schtick doesnt really get old fast because of the variation.

Is it trash in the larger spectrum of television? Yeah
But is it funny as fuck? Hell yeah.
There have been a surfeit of AD threads in the last few weeks.
I can't imagine why. It's been on the air for over a decade and just now people are starting to litter this board with threads about it daily.
It's an alright show. I've seen every episode about 4-5 times or more because [as] has been playing 4 episodes nightly for the last 8 years or so. I've grown weary of it.
American Dad feels like one of those tolerable side projects from famous musicians. It feels similar, so you like it, but ultimately, it's too watered-down to ever be as good as the original.

/tv/ has always had a soft spot for AD despite outwardly having to hate Seth McFarlane shows. There have been good threads about it for years. Far more than Family Guy.
It's a good show and seasons 4-8 are all gold.

Seth McFarlane had little to do with the show. He helped create the concept and political tone in the early seasons. He's just done the voices and done zero writing since early S1.
Which is why it's good.
Yeah in my case when I grew tired of the cutaway scenes, one noting of characters, and a song every other episode I started liking American dad (even though AD started doing just about all of that just not to the same extreme.
