Why are all horror MCs female? Is it >muh feminism or is there some other explanation?
>>
>>69132389
Because they're better at screaming than men I guess
>>
>>69132389
i forgot how cute she was

what happened to her ?
>>
>>69132389
It elevates the scary factor of the bad guy because nobody expects a chick to fight back
>>
The thought of a killer penetrating a woman with a knife is similar to the act of sex (learnt this in film class)
>>
>>69132389
we do and also don't want to see women get hurt
>>
>>69132389

Because we live in a sexist, patriarchal society in which we deem it unacceptable for a man to show any emotion other than anger, frustration, or dedication, so audiences would perceive a man running away from Jason Voorhees as a coward, while they'll sympathize with a woman.

Patriarchy backfiring again, basically
>>
>>69132426
she still looks good imo
she was in daredevil s02 ? i might be remembering wrong
>>
>>69132389
Sympathy for when the big bad killer corners them at the end
>>
>>69132472

>allowing your society to have a bunch of pussies in it.

anon, I'm glad we have a society full of sociopaths.
>>
>>69132472
>Patriarchy
>>
>>69132472

Actually thats just nature
>>
>>69132389
Vulnerable protagonists elevate tension in the viewers, especially in horror films.
>>
Because a woman is perfect to play the role of a weak, intimidated and scared pray. Masculinity plus "fighting back" kills the fun in a situation in where you hunt and toy with your victim.
>>
>>69132426

Wild Things happened her tits are awful
>>
>>69132493
nvm i'm dumb she was in latest season of house of cards
>>
>>69132493

no, neve cambell wasn't on daredevil tv show. rosario dawson was/is
>>
>>69132389
they're always hot too, weird huh?
>>
>>69132389
Because horror films reflect the social hierarchy of the real world where women are the perpetual underdog.
>>
>>69132426
there's a neve campbellaissance happening now. she was in mad men s6 briefly, as well as manhattan s2 and house of cards s4.
>>
>>69132505
I agree, and human nature is patriarchal.

There is literally nothing wrong with a patriarchal society. Patriarchy =/= treating women like shit.
>>
>>69132553
on paper there's nothing wrong with any social arrangement
>>
>>69132426
her tits are ugly
>>
>>69132526

but anon if they were ugly women, would we care?
>>
>>69132449
>le sexual penetration is violent meme
your film teacher is a hack
>>
>>69132389
Because the villain doesn't seem as threatening when the MC looks like he could OHK the villain.

It's funny how you never see feminist whining about always being the main helpless character of horror movies, since it obviously shows them as weak underdogs.
>>
>>69132389
Because women make better victims. No one wants to watch a guy run away screaming in fear for a whole movie. he'd be called a fag.

ok makes sense in slashers, but in all of these demon/ghosts/haunting newer shit it always comes down to a girl fighting back and those enemies are supernatural creatures and men are also inferior to them. Maybe it really is something about gender roles, but I think it's just a trope now, no real reason or ideological motivation for it.
>>

Neve Campbell was like the KStew of the 90's.

That's just mainstream movies in general nowadays.
>>

>>
A lot of modern torture porn films have an erotic quality to their violence, so they cast young pretty woman in them so they can contrive various sexually violent situations to stick them in which stimulates the audience.
>>
>>69132632

all sex is domination humiliation and conquest
>>
>>69132662
Movies are fiction and supernatural creatures like ghosts represent real world things. They obviously don't represent ghosts because ghosts aren't real. So if a woman in a movie is being haunted by a ghost it's probably commentary on something that women experience in the real world.
>>
>>69132662

women project onto women, and men care about women especially when danger is perceived, it isn't exactly rocket science, anon.

Those are feminist views that are held by 99% of women, so either you adopt them and slap them around or you don't have sex because they think you're a weak omega. Sorry man, 2016 sucks.

Im just telling you like it is. You'll see when you grow up. You only have yourself to blame.
>>

Frankenstein was written by a woman. There's a long tradition of women and horror being intertwined.

The "women make better preys/men make better predators" kind of explanation can be viable, serial-killer based horror exploits this, Italian gialli are very sexually-charged, more so than American slashers., but doesn't explain why little girls can be so spooky in Japanese horror for example, If you want a more pretentious answer, I'll suggest that its simply something deeply rooted in our collective unconscious.

Slashers were derivative of haunted house movies which themselves were often derivative of Gothic romance stories such as the Bronte sisters' novels, which had death and sexuality as intertwined themes, most likely due to the era's Puritan sensibilities. A woman's sexuality is a dangerous thing. One of the key themes in slashers (obvious in Halloween), which Scream made fun of, is that those who sin are doomed to get punished and only the virginal girl can survive.

You'll notice that haunted movies don't work with male protagonists, except when they're creative/artists of some kind (Shining being a notable example). Carl Jung theorized that the feminine image in a man's psyche, which he called "Anima" is also the source of creative ability. In Greek mythology, Psyche (the soul) is a woman who becomes a goddess. In horror movies, the house itself is often symbolic of the character's psyche: fears, memories... Motherhood (and the idea that a woman's survival instinct is stronger than a man's) also seems to inspire horror storytellers often.

When Del Toro was promoting Crimson Peak, he went on in interviews about how it was filled with references to Gothic novels and Jungian psychosexual symbolism (long corridors, locks and keys, blood on white sheets, etc.), He also made parallels with fairy tales/childhood fantasies, as you can easily see themes from Alice in Wonderland or Oz in Pan's Labyrinth and a lot of other horror movies as well.
>>
>>69132389
No one gives a shit about a man getting killed. Women get more sympathy.
>>
>>69134143
Ok, so in your view, feminists don't view sex as violent, this doesn't warp the minds of women to the extend that most of them are into choking and slapping and shit like that nowadays, and this doesn't fuck up the sex lives of normal people?

Am I getting this right? You think that women like regular guys who don't abuse them and this is enough for them and they don't run off to whoever can provide the biggest emotional rollercoaster?
>>
>>69134156
>girls can be so spooky in Japanese horror

Another woman, usually.

Unless the female is a sexual temptress/succubi, stuff like Species or Under the Skin.

Stuff like Carrie, May or Black Swan about girls going insane, often due to abusive mothers or social pressure from other girls, often with lesbian undertones.
The Neon Demon's script goes exactly in that direction, it's female on female gruesome horror.
Again, motherhood, like Jason's mother in Friday 13th.
In the Japanese horror films, like Ring or Dark Water, the protag is often a woman/mother, who somehow tries to help the haunted girl find peace, with parallels to her own daughter.
The Queen in Aliens is destroyed by Ripley, again thanks to the woman/mother's survival instinct (she even has a symbolic daughter to protect).

Photographer Jack is played by skinny guy from Dexter. Older, model gang leader Sarah is played by Abbey Lee.

Sarah is getting older and is in love with the photographer - the one who validates youth and beauty -, who ignores her as he keeps working with the fresh new talents, ie Elle who's new in town, 'the only virgin in L.A.'.

1st half introduces the various girls. Girls talking about beauty, gossiping, dealing with modeling agency, a photographer's in love with Elle, she does her first nude photoshoot.... Jesse befriends Ruby.

Jesse hurts her hand. Sarah tries to lick the blood, Jesse freaks out.

Ruby/Jena seduces Jesse/Elle. They have lesbian sex.

The main girls are at a restaurant discussing what they're gonna eat, meanwhile Jesse is relaxing alone at a big remote house on the hills. She wants to go swimming but the pool is empty. Someone's in the house trying to get her, generic horror chase around the house as she realizes the girls are trying to kill her.

Ruby shows up to help Jesse escape, Jesse feels relieved but in the end Jesse realizes she's in on it. She gets pushed into the empty pool and breaks her leg. They kill her.

The girls clean up the murder and eat Jesse's body -off screen- one of them starts vomiting Jesse's eye out and another picks it up and eats it again, it's all vey awkwad and gore and sexual at the same time, they shower together coverd in blood, you can see that bit in the trailer. Some of them start feeling weird, develop werid hunger urges, start washing their hands obsessively, etc.

Ruby starts freaking out out of guilt and making a scene, Sarah slits her throat.

I think it's implied the other one gets murdered off screen as well.

Afterwards, Bella Heathcote's character Gigi goes to the hospital, feeling sick and hearing Elle inside her head. She rips her tits out and open her stomach until guts fall off.

In the end Sarah gets away with the murder and Jack accepts to go on a date with her.

In a free society, women cheating is nothing new.

Women have advantages in sex(in our current society), you don't even need proof for getting raped.

In terms of nature men are supposed to keep females in check, or fight over her(if it's worth it).

My point was, the more feminism, the shittier things become. If men accept a feministic society, all women will go into regret, there will be no men there for them. Women are more reliant on men than vice-versa. There's a reason women over 35 are more hungry than men, and are two times less likely single.

tl;dr: Women don't understand logic.

It goes back a long way. Many popular horror stories and books had women as protag/co-protag. Some of those were adapted to film very early in the history of cinema (Phantom of the Opera is a prime example and was very influencial.)
>>
people care about women more than men. that's all it is. makes it more compelling to see a woman in danger
>>
If we talk slashers exclusively, it's because the first and most popular ones had a female "MC" (horrors are more of an ensemble cast movie most of the times though. The surviving MC is usually incidental). There was not a concious effort to make it that way though.

tbphwyOP I'd prefer all movies be exclusively women. Even male roles. Just slap a mustache on a qt. Dudes are the fucking worst.
>>
>>69132389

Because most horrors are based on the writer/director (typically male) taking out their anger on women and teaching them lessons through the film. Hence all the common tropes. Have sex? Die. Be popular? Die. Be athletic? Dead.

Most horrors are, at their base, revenge fantasies. That latter 90s introduced subversions of this like Scream, though, and the upswell of self-aware horror movies.

Except it's something of a "nufag" maymay. It's the new wave of virginal rule 2 violators constantly whining about it, and it was largely started because of Star Wars triggering the ant-SJW SJWfags. And it's clear that it's not make pretend to a lot of the dipshits here. I've repeatedly seen people unironically complain about not being able to relate to a female protagonist or not being able to suspend disbelief when a woman do impossible movie bullshit that nobody can do.
