The House is not ruined yet; it's temporarily defeated but can very much rise again. A lot of people overlook the fact that the only Starks who actually got killed in the series are Ned, Catelyn and Robb. In fairness, Bran and Arya are almost certainly never going to return to Winterfell, but they don't need to. Jon might become a Stark (it's pretty unclear if he'll become officially recognised as Stark, Targaryen or remain a Snow) and there's still Sansa and Rickon. If Rickon gets killed and Jon doesn't become a Snow though, the name won't be carried on to Sansa's kids so that's when we have a problem.

Arthur Dayne was a fookin legend, best knight of his generation, except for Rhaegar maybe and he and Ned had nothing against each other.
He and the others were however Kingsguard and chose to honor their fucking oaths, no matter what.
Ned and Dayne didn't want to fight but had to and the Tower of Joy is the most important fight of the book that defines everything.
Both had valid reasons to kill each other, Ned won, why would there be hate?
Dunno if the Daynes know about Howland's Reed dirty swamp magic that is implied to have won the fight for Ned but it was all done with chivalry. Guy who wastes the sword of the morning is worthy of respect.
