All the Little Animals

you've probably never heard of it - it's an obscure Christian Bale/John Hurt movie from after his time as a childhood actor, but before he'd made a name for himself as an adult actor. It's still one of his best performances.

It's dreamlike and fable-like, and one of the most feelsy movies you'll ever see. It's one of those movies that affects the way you see things.

It's about a mentally handicapped 20-something year old (Bale) whose mother dies, leaving him her successful company. His evil stepfather tries to force him to sign over the company, threatening to send him to a mental institution. Bale's character runs away to the woods, where he meets a crazy old hermit who buries roadkill (Hurt). The Hermit teaches him a strange kind of deep ecology, showing Bale's character his place in the natural world. It's just as weird as it sounds.
