This is missing the point of what made the Alien such a great design in the first place. The alien should appear humanoid and incorporate strong sexual imagery. It should look just as likely to rape you as kill you.

Growing spikes and ridged skulls makes them tougher to kill, which benefits the species.

If the alien's host is humanoid, then yes. The facehuggers, chestbursters and inner mouth 'skull raping' tongue still represent sexual imagery, it shouldn't matter how many spikes or claws the final creature has.
