Let's talk horror /tv/. What have you seen lately? Which movies are you looking forward to?
Watched Afflicted (2013) and Banshee Chapter over the weekend and was pleasantly surprised by the former.
Am looking forward to February with Emma Roberts and Kiernan Shipka which apparently got good reviews after film festival screenings last year: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nTyyT74CMaw

been looking into silent horror lately with Nosferatu and (technically not silent but it might as well be) Vampyr
>>69081482
the camera moves for 1932 are RIDICULOUS
also for some reason the protagonist is a HP Lovecraft lookalike
Going to rewatch the Children of the Corn series this week.
>>69081398
Watched Krampus recently and despite people singing its praises I thought it was kinda shitty. Before that I watched "It Follows" and didn't think much of that either. The last good horror I watched was the Evil Dead remake which was like 3 years ago or something.
Someone recommend me something. It can be recent or older, I'm not fussed.

>>69081597
The last horror flick I watched was Last Shift. It was decent. Give it a shot.
I get lots of horror movie that have 5 or 6 star ratings on IMDB because occasionally one of them is better than people are saying.
does Faust count as horror? either way it's visually amazing
>>69081398
Literally the most boring and unoriginal genre.
>>69081597
Also, Frankenstein (2015; not Victor Frankenstein) is a great version of the story.
>>69081398
Just finished watching Black Sunday for the umpteenth time, I have some more Italian horror to watch later tonight, some Luciano Ercoli films
>>69081857
MY FRIEND OF AN ETHNIC PERSUASION, Bava is the shit
>>69081857
have you seen Kill Baby Kill yet
>>69081755
Sure. Great screenshots btw
>>69081597
Tale of Tales from last year is pretty good.
bumping with a gem
>psycho Andy Serkis
>that dude from The Americans
>>69081891
Indeed he is
>>69081934
Of course, I've seen all of Bava's horror films, still need to check out his sword and sandal movies
>>69083178
Lee whipping her clothes off was hysterical
>>69082192
one day i'll take the plunge and read Tim Lucas's 1000 page chronicle of Bava
http://videowatchdog.com/home/digital/library/packs/books.html
>>69083208
The entire movie is just so comfy, and Bava is unmatched when it comes to lighting.
recently watched one of Del Toro's first shorts, which is surprisingly good for a 6 minute low budget Mexican short film.
it's like a bizarre mash up of Suspiria style lighting and Twilight Zone-esque tone

I saw Baskin at a festival recently. Awful film. Not worth watching.
Looking forward to the Witch coming out on blu. Already saw it and loved it.
Keep meaning on picking up the Hallow. Heard god things and I like the director.
Also want to see old one called Zero Boys.
>>69083360
His commentaries are fantastic, I wanted to buy his book but saw it was out-of-print and out of my price range
>>69083536
mildly sure he roped his own grandma into it and then personally dubbed her voice.
also Mimic might not be a great movie but it's fucking pretty
>>69083579
the ebook is $30 with some videos, I'd prefer print too but it beats SIX HUNDRED FUCKING DOLLARS
>>69081398
Pretty much just watching Carpenter's The Thing over and over again because every horror film made now is either sp00py ghosts with little children, home invasion/revenge movies aka hour and a half special effects demo, or is still found footage BS.
>>69083652
just listened to the commentary with Carpenter and Russell, it's like a great podcast
it's not fully horror but damn is it gory
>>69083848
God damn Del Taco really loved brutal, detailed face smashing.
I think the bear bottle scene in Pans Labyrinth traumatized me the first time I watched it.
>>69084053
I realllllllllly did not remember that the 2nd time I watched it
>>69084101
woops wrong webm
>>69081398
Watched Suspiria the other night, really enjoyed it. I've never been a huge horror fan, but it, along with The Strange Color of Your Body's Tears, has gotten me really interested in giallo. I'm fan of the whole "mystery slowly starts to make sense"+"complete assault of the viewer's senses" if that makes sense. Recs?
>>69084199
pretty much all Bava giallos
Blood and Black Lace (personal favorite)
The Girl Who Knew Too Much
Kill Baby Kill
The Whip and the Body
Black Sabbath
Saw The Witch and it was boring as fuck.
I wanted to like Banshee Chapter but the bizarre and pointless Hunter S. Thompson impersonation completely killed suspension of disbelief for me. Like it couldn't decide if it wanted to be a serious horror or a comedy.
>>69084199
if you want to continue with Argento you can go back to Bird with the Crystal Plumage, it has a sick Morricone soundtrack
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IGkn7xvGxxk
I thought green room was really good. I don't know if it counts as 'horror' but it was stressful as fuck and some of the kills really came out of nowhere
>>69084199
Timecrimes and Triangle off the top of my head are good with mindgames. The former influenced the latter but Triangle is still really good on its own.
Likewise, the first [REC] is good in a visceral way
>>69083699
Definitely one of the beet commentarys for info and enjoyment; shame Carpenter channels Schwarzenegger a lot of the time and explains plot of the scene we're about to see.
>>69084199
Some personal favorites:
Your Vice is a Locked Room and Only I Have the Key
A Lizard in a Woman's Skin
Opera
Tenebrae
A Bay of Blood
The House with Laughing Windows
What Have You Done to Solange?

I'm hoping a torrent gets released soon. It's not showing in any theaters near me.
The Invitation was my favorite of this year so far, it's a perfect film to do a double feature with Coherence (one of my fav thrillers)
>>69081512
Whoa
Sacrifice (2016) starring Radha Mitchell (Pitch Black, Silent Hill, The Crazies). Feels like something from the early-mid 2000 horror boom. Lady doctor moves to husband's family scottish island home, finds dead body, maybe it's a cult etc etc. Not bad.
>>69081677
Should I watch the original first?
>>69085626
if you enjoy silent movies, otherwise I'd watch the remake and then go back and try it - also worth checking out Shadow of the Vampire which is a fictional version of how Nosferatu was shot with Willem Dafoe as Orlok
>>69084942
heavily recommend. honestly i'm kinda surprised a torrent hasn't already dropped given how long it's been on the festival circuit
>watch Ouija yesterday
>fucking bores me half to sleep
That's what I get for liking Olivia Cooke. That other British horror she was in wasn't so bad though.
>>69085319
I wish there were more scifi movies like Coherence out there, it's so good.
>>69085875
Agreed. It has such an eerie atmosphere. I watched it again immediately after I first saw it.
Top Lee/Cushing movie?
I fucking love their adaptation of the Thing, Horror Express
>>69085319
Loved Coherence so I'm about to watch The Invitation. You better not let me down, friendo.
