As a northman and a rebel he couldn't afford to command from the rear like other Lords would have. He'd be capable of winning against top tier fighters but with way outside odds, so he doesn't belong in a proper list but would be on a wildcard showing in my opinion.

I think it's a pretty good case to be made. He managed to survive the ToJ even if frog magic had a hand in it, that's a big deal. He would have veen frontline fightimg against the best soldiers in the Realm and he did most of his training and fighting with Branden as a boy and Bobby B later in life.

It would have only taken a few scenes to show off more prowess. Or they could have had him overwhelming Brienne during their fight while bound and thin from imprisonment and seeing as Brienne goes on to stomp on the Hound and everyone else it would have done the trick. Him losing his hand is only powerful because he was supposed to be the best fighter of almost all.

When Jamie lost his hand, he lost his identity. Because of that he became really introspective and changed a lot as a human being. The final straw was Cersei pushing him away. Instead he's still attached to her at the dick.
Instead of him realizing he's accomplished nothin in his life worthy of his name and deciding to do something worth being written in the white book, he literally threw it aside to have sex with Cersei.

He is heartbroken that he was used so much despite all his love, he sees no real affection coming from her and he decides that is better to move on.
Nothing in how Jaime reacts towards Cercei strike me as someone that is in need or want to be part of a toxic relationship if anything he is giving signs that are typical of the one that wants to get out of one.
