I mean, sure you can fish and shit but wouldn't you die from malnutrition because you've only been eating fish for x amount of days/months?
It could work out if you brought various vegetable seeds or something. You would survive longer on an island but I think it would get boring and you still might up missing some supplies so you have to go back to the mainland which would probably just make you end up dead.
