Are there any actual films from <25 years ago that were genuinely reviewed bad on release but now are well regarded? It seems whenever movies like this are discussed it's something from the 60s.

The Thing.

>Carpenter allows his characters to wander off alone and come back with silly grins on their faces, until we've lost count of who may have been infected, and who hasn't. That takes the fun away.

I haven't been able to find a good one for the good the bad, and the ugly.

You can find a few negative ones but all of these listed still received overall positive reviews upon release. Even Fear and Loathing had a pretty mixed response but I wouldn't call it overall negative

Lmao Ebert was a hack.... The fun was not knowing. Jeez what a dumb quote
Even I hated this movie and I loved The Tom Green Show
Watched it again recently because of /tv/ and was laughing my ass off

Tom said there's about a half hour of footage and music he forced to cut, so the film we got is missing many transitioning scenes and has a completely different mood than he wanted to present. Would love to see his director's cut, but it's still my favorite comedy. Truly one of a kind.

The beginning with him just skateboarding through a mall has me waxing nostalgic every time. I fucking sucked at skateboarding but I was still obsessed with it.

The Thing is shit. Anybody who has read the original story knows that it was an unbelievable waste of one of the greatest sci-fi short stories of all time.

Anything that Kubrick does gets the classic stamp 30 years later and rightly so.
>>69048302
Ebert was a useless critic though

I rewatched this movie last night. First time since it originally came out. I tried SO HARD to enjoy. Please tell me what makes you think it's a good movie.
>>69053491
just because you're a fanboy doesn't make this a great movie. It aimed high and delivered some great cinematic visual moments but it was a clusterfuck as a whole and as a film.
