The fourth series of Comedy Vehicle was not up to Stew's usual standard, but still wasn't the usual BBC comedy trash.
So even when Stewart Lee is phoning it in, he's still better than anything the BBC has to offer
>>
>>69021675
No, it was complete shit and if you weren't familiar with Stew's other work you'd be unable to enjoy it. And stuff like the Rod Liddle routine work great live in a small intimate venue with the atmosphere and stuff like when I saw it first, but on TV it doesn't communicate.
This series was the worst comedy on TV this year so far

>but on TV it doesn't communicate
The Rod Liddle bit was the first time in all my years watching Stew that made me think, "Oh come on, you're not doing this for ten minutes are you?"
But then I have a severe and intense hatred for people who make unnecessary noise when they eat, so I'm biased in that regard. His punchline "Every time you look at your watch..." was almost worth it, and the continued noise after that and over the credits was funny as I'm a sucker for commitment to the bit, but having to hear that sound in the first place was torture.

I think he's closer to a socialist m8. 'Liberal' and 'socialist' are often confused in the /pol/ hivemind but are quite distinct, especially east of the Atlantic.

>>69021529

It's an entire Stewart Lee bit.
>>
I watched all of his stuff last month. I was expecting it to be incredibly PC and Guardian friendly but I was surprised at how little it had to do with politics. Just this board blowing it out of context. He is those things, obviously, but that's not his entire act.

His bit about the gaping anus of Christ had me in stitches.
>>
Liberals are really stupid
>>
>>69022427
Many socialists hate liberals/liberalism.

He's a member of the British Humanist society too.
>>
He fell through the bar
>>
>>69022503
The way he folds the whole thing back into the Joe Pasquale bit really gives it the punch it needs to end, and it's such a great bit.
People still talk about Carlin's "seven words you can't say on TV" bit, when the ending to 90s Comedian is so much better in every respect.
>>
>>69022607
Exactly. The fact that the entire show is essentially one joke is genius. People don't give enough credit to his analysis and deconstruction of the medium. Even throwaway bits like when he is sat with the guitar and half heartedly makes a joke, saying you can get away with it being bad because it looked off the cuff.
>>
>>69022687
>there's a guitar just sitting there during If You Prefer A Milder Comedian...
>it is never addressed until the very end
>he picks up the guitar, addressed the feeling of embarrassment in the room
>proceeds to sing pretty well and be funny without making it a "comedy song," which are usually rubbish outside of Bill Bailey's act and even then it's stretching sometimes
And you just know it's all planned out as part of the show, but it seems off-the-cuff.
When he says during the breakdown that "obviously I use that guitar!" I can't help but get second-hand embarrassment, but he pulled it off and it was a good ending.

Whenever I think of getting into stand-up, I almost immediately get fucked up because I can't do anything like Stewart Lee and anything less is just McIntyre/Mack observation and I can't even do that well. Too nervous and too unprepared, even for a drunken crowd of fifteen people in a tiny pub. /blog

In short, I don't know how these guys do it, it's not easy, but Stewart Lee's shows make it look effortless and you get lost in it

Scottish cities are miniature Londons, in which everyone who owns a suit or smart attire rushes around trying to look busy and important, shoving you off pavements while you're waiting for a bus, forgetting they live in fucking Scotland where they're automatically cunts and don't have to grind for the title.

I fucking hate it here, but that's for another thread on another board.

I still think that Carpet Remnant World is Stew's best; I have never laughed so much even on repeated viewings. "Rats fighting in a ditch..." always makes me laugh my arse off.

I was on the internet the other day, and there was this person on there, on your internet, on your world wide web... Called Anonymous.
And I don't know what this person does for a living, don't know what he looks like... I couldn't tell you ladies and gentlemen if he is a he or a she. (But I'd wager he is an unattractive male, neither here nor...) But this person, this "Anonymous," (I'm positive that's his Christian name), this Anonymous sure does POST A LOT OF RUBBISH.

"FOR YOU."
"YOU'RE A BIG GUY."
"I BET YOU ENJOY THE MOVIES OF WES ANDERSON."
"WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR QUEER PARTY FRIENDS?"
And this one's my favourite:
"BRAVO NOLAN."

It seems the new, technologically literate generation socialize exclusively by repeating, word for word, what they've seen on the internet and the more they've seen it repeated, the more acceptable it is to repeat it again...

BABBAGE, BERNERS-LEE, THEIR DREAMS REALISED... THE WORLD CONNECTED LIKE NEVER BEFORE... WONDROUS MACHINES TRANSMITTING TRILLIONS OF PIECES OF INFORMATION A SECOND...

Brilliant stand up. His shows are so well crafted.
>>
>>69026199
I know Stewart Lee. Not well. But I can confirm that he's a cock.
>>
>>69026355
He's extremely prolific. Writes for a lot of comedy shows, puts out at least an hour of new stand up material every year, hosts a great comedy interview podcast (RHLSTP), has another podcast (Me1 vs Me2 Snooker) where he plays snooker against himself while commentating on the match, has a blog that he updates almost every day that he's been keeping for about 14 years, appears on all kinds of other stuff as well.

I don't know why he doesn't get more attention, he's been consistently funny for ages now.

Yeah, he once talked about it to Adam Buxton (another underrated comedian and podcaster). They both quite deliberately stay out of the mainstream because it gives them more freedom, or at least that's what they said.
>>
>>69027625
He once said he basically has the mind of a 5 year old, which sums him up pretty well.

"Would you rather have a (regenerating) hand made of ham or a nipple that dispenses talcum powder?"

Juvenile question. Obviously I'd choose the talcum powder nipple as the lesser of two evils. I can afford both ham and talc, and the talcum powder nipple is less freakish.

No, he's a leftist, and even a socialist, but he plays up the obnoxious behaviors common among these types. He actually spends a lot more time making fun of his own social group, just more subtly and intelligently, than he does conservatives. Even when he does go after conservatives it's with really funny stuff like pointing out the hypocrisy of Top Gear presenters.

His bits are even better on Youtube where the guy who uploads a lot of him also posted annotations with excerpts from his book where he goes into hilarious explanations of all of his bits.

>>

I like Stew, I hope he never dies.
>>
I hate Stewart Lee but it's generally fruitless to criticise him since a large part of his act is dedicated toward specifically elaborating on why he is a terrible, pandering liberal with nothing of interest to say who is past his best. He hopes that the double bluff of saying this out in the open will trick his audience into thinking that it therefore must not be true, but it is true. Every word. He criticises himself far better than I ever could and he's also even more frustrating in that he purports an air of respectability and authority despite the majority of his routines being well crafted lies and shaggy dog stories for the purposes of class based political propaganda.
>>

>>
>>69030759

>I seriously doubt he has actual political opinions at this point.

yeah, but he still pretends to have opinions so he can make money, but thinks he can get away with that by saying it, so people assume there is another higher motive when there isn't

I also have to say that I hate Stewart Lee with an unending passion, but I love Baconface and regard him to be a creation of pure comedic genius.
