Trout mask replica of film
>>
It's weird, funny, uncomfortable and has a good delivery.
>>
>>69012480
>good delivery.
>>
>>69012523
Tell me an actor who could pull off that script
>>
>>69012480
Like Brett Cecil.
>>
>>69012415
Book was better anyway
>>
>>69012415
Objectively wrong but you're welcome to believe whatever you want.
>>
Probably the most faithful book to movie adaptation. It's a good movie and Depp pulled it off one no one wise could have
>>
>>69012624
Depp lived in Thompson's basement while preparing for the role. Finds manuscript for the rum diaries. Talks thompson into publishing it.
>>
>>69012624
Although Johnny depp was the only actor who wasn't as boring as the other shit.
Still keep to the opinion of my thread.
>>
>>69012415

literally one of the best book to movie adaptations, hits on nearly every scene.

fear and loathing in las vegas is probably one of the most pointless movies in existence. it has no idea what it wants to be and the ending was so contrived, i couldnt help but feel humiliated for the people involved

you should feel humiliated for yourself

The cinematography, performances, sets, and tone are all 10/10. Scott just can't into the human element unless its burned into the script, or if his brother (rip in peace tony) helped.

In the book they actually find the American Dream. But this is cut from the film.

Why?
>>
>>69012415
Great film adaptation of what is maybe the last Great American Novel (if you buy into the thing)

Fear and Loathing is great. it's not a masterpiece but it's great.
I liked the non-cheesy presentations of drug effects.

>>
>>69018451
/pol/ here, I legit like the film and Hunter S. Thompson as a author. Fear and Loathing on the campaign trail is what got me interested in politics.
>>
>>69018529
>thats bullshit and you know it
Its explicitly stated multiple times in the book and film. Don't get mad at me because you didn't pay attention anon.
>>
>>69012415
But Trout Mask Replica is good and even if it wasn't that comparison doesn't make any sense
>>
>>69018573
Shit made me want to puke. I enjoyed the movie but I can't get past the drug scenes since they're so disorientating
>>
>>69018358
Do they really? Don't think so. Are you referring to the Circus Circus episode? HST's final ramblings about being a monster reincarnatipn of horatio alger, always on the move?

>>69018529
>no substance involved
Just out of curiosity, what do you find substantial? Of course, I disagree with you, but indulge my curiosity.

>>69018575
Good point, but Fear and Loathing is much, much more focused on the American Dream and how to live it - posted elsewhere, but I feel like it's a book about the "religion of possibility" that is to be born American (in that time frame at least) and how it has been perverted, only true being reached by making a monster out of oneself - theleologically suspending the ethical if you will. Blood Meridian is great but is much more about humanity at large and our relationship to stories and the world they create. Just my two cents.

Was this one of the best monologues in movie history? https://youtu.be/vUgs2O7Okqc
>>
>>69012415
i like it as a movie better than buffalo, but i like bill murray as hunter more.
>>
>>69018755
When he is listening to his tape recorder, trying to figure out what happened the last few days and write his story they find someone who knows where the american dream is, but they don't know how to get there. They are lead on a wild goose chase until they wind up in an abandoned parking lot in north vegas, iirc.

Circus circus is where they try to buy the monkey.
>>
BEAUTIFUL FUCKIN' TITS, MAN
>>
>>69019003
Ah yes, you're talking about how they ask infos to the waitress and her manager and get thoroughly misunderstood - remember that one. Always found it funny, made me think of how you can never settle for something that is given to you, since you'll find it to be barren nd, devoid of meaning, but you always need to create your own value (plus something something the impossibility of communication). Of course, the empty parking lot as the American Dream is also a possible interpretation.

I was referring to the moment Thompson says, in the Circus Circus, "We are looking for the American Dream, you must realize we are on the main nerve" or something like that.
>>
>>69018271
Man you're making me wish we had more cool authors cameos, at least Burroughs made a few films.
>>
FINISH THE FUCKING STORY
>>
>>69019749
I was hoping pynchon would have a cameo in IV.

>>
>>69020204
Leave him be, he just put together two things that felt "random" and "needlessly convoluted" and "pretentious" for the sake of making a bait thread
>>
>>69019167
If the empty parking lot is not the American Dream, why are there so many of them?
>>
>>69020934
You mean, throughout the book/movie? Don't remember so many of them actually.
>>
>>69018152

>>
>>69020439
Are you seriously defending this shit fest of a film?
>>
>>69023446
Yes, and have done so at length above. What are your reasons for slamming it?
>>
>>69018289

How much they pay you to fuck that bear?
>>
>>69012415
Fuck that movie is so terrible.

Here's one. The only reason people like it is the editing gimmick, putting scenes out of order. It makes them feel like special snowflakes trying to put them in order in their heads.
>>
>>69014198
It's about the end of a feneration. Two dinosaurs trying to relive their glory days in one final bow out as the world around them starts to forget where they came from and what they tried to do.

It's not surprising you don't get it since you'll only really understand the point with age. Try watching it again when you're an adult.
>>
>>69023639
While a legitimate point from a sociological point of view, it's not really touching on why you think this movie's terrible. Also, even if I know you're probably baiting, I'd like a serious opinion on it since I'm conflicted on this movie's merits.
>>
>>69014198
>i didn't actually understand the movie:the post.
>>
>>69024099
I can't really think of anything good about the movie. It is just an long boring list of uninteresting events. The McGuffin prop was pretty good, I can say that, but that's all really. If just had a severe lack of good writing and acting.
>>
>>69018451

fear and loathing has many flaws but it's far from "shitty"
>>
>>69024281
You sound like a faggot.
>>
>>69024195
Well, what about the fact the whole movie is essentially a pastiche of previous films, borrowing and reassembling a variety of cinematographies (sorry ESL clunky translations) in a new, hyberbolic form? I mean, I get the same vibe as when watching this (obviously, Tarantino's less accomplished)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mmoh-x4dDTw

Then again, I disagree with you on the writing/acting point, but that's fairly subjective I imagine.

thompson had already gotten decades of fictional representation that he didn't approve of

the movie isn't worth watching again, but it was fun to see another take on the guy
>>
Who did it better? Murray or Depp? They both lived with the man as the respective movies were filmed.
>>
>>69024976
Three out of those four reasons are subjective and related to how you interfaced with the film, while
>barely anything of a story
is wrong. You can argument further by critizicing the fact it's mainly composed of vignettes, but that doesn't change the fact that there is a strong, immanent narrative AND an allegorial one.

>>69025024
Yeah but I'm not that dude, it just annoyed me how people responded like fucking drones. I barely visit /pol/.

>>69025059
I've seen many point to that dude as the most likely cameo but then again, who the fuck really knows. For what is worth, we don't even know if the voicover he allegedly provided for the trailer is authentic.
>>
>>69025059
I thought he was supposed to be the guy in the window in that commune scene when they're at the table.
>>
>>69025357
O thought Murray was too funny and Depp was not nasty or disgusting enough. I favor the Depp performance though.
