Most Gibli films are very well animated but kinda boring.
Nausicaa is the only film I really REALLY enjoyed. The comic is amazing too, and a totally different and longer beast.

I really love the atmosphere and setting of the whole film as well as Porco Rosso himself. He's this laid back badass with an eventful past who would rather enjoy the simple things in life now that he's getting old and his best days are behind him. I also enjoy the fact that they gave him a literal curse as a metaphor for his internal struggles and everyone is so casual about it. It's like they had to sprinkle on a bit of ghibli magic to prevent it from becoming too based in reality.

Really, what's contrarian about any of those choices? Nausicaa is good but the manga is leagues better and while Castle is a great Ghibli movie there's plenty of better Lupin movies like Jigen's Grave or Liberty Crisis.
