Civil War was probably the best movie of the series so far. It was well paced. Acting was good. Story was good. Characters had strong consistent motivation. No internal logic problems. The airport battle was incredibly inventive and fun. Literally almost perfectly constructed movie.

True though it does play out differently in the comic. There the heroes all lose and die and Thanos overwhelms various personifications of abstract concepts like Chaos and Order to become god.
The reason he loses is that while he is in the process of transitioning to a celestial conciousness he leaves his body which still has the gauntlet on it and one of the people he'd kept around in a tortured, disfigured state for his own amusement (Nebula) pulls it off his hand and steals the power away from him.
Most of the heroes he doesn't even bother to fight, he just snaps his fingers and erases them from existence or turns their bones into jelly or has some weird space mold eat them.
