I disagree with your assessment, but regardless my interests have kinda switched over to just movies in general that are set at night in the city.
Shit like Thief, Collateral, Drive etc. I figure if I can't enjoy 80's revivalism because it "isn't authentic" I might as well enjoy one particular aspect of it.

Still, what I'm trying to say is that the style of how they do those things is similar to 80's movies. Compare the opening chase in Drive to something like...I dunno, the chase in Terminator. Same general aesthetic ideas.

Like, that's an aesthetic I love but I always assumed it was called Neon-Noir. As a filmmaker I really want to exploit this style in some way, but due to my extremely limited experience and lack of anything even resembling a budget, I feel like that could be extremely fucking difficult.
