How come you never see Jedi using different blade sizes? Surely there are situations where a lightdagger might be useful.
For context, they were in the arena of a Hutt who collected Jedi artifacts and lightsabers, and Imperial forces were attacking them, so Luke threw them lightsabers so they'd at least have a weapon
I'm not saying it wasn't a pants on head decision, but they pretty much all used them terribly and there's nothing to stop mooks from using a saber aside from fear of decapitation yourself

We don't really know a lot of details on the feature, because we NEVER see it in use (even in the old continuity. Its only ever mentioned in reference books).
Yoda has a short lightsaber blade though, so I assume its more of a switch that lets you chose between 3 sizes, than an actual dial which lets you chose any size.
