I saw Harakiri recently and loved it. Do you have any suggestions on where to go next?
>>68941082
sword of doom
samurai rebellion
sword of the beast
and obviously kurosawa's filmography of samurai films
if you were referring to kobbayashi's films hen samurai rebellion then human trilogy then kwaidan
if samurai, pic related highly
i don't know what most of these are. what is the point of these threads?
>>68941296
my friend loves that kim ki duk film
i hate his film taste with a passion
>>68940845
i've seen it about fifty times
i may be in the wrong, but it's not for lack of exposure
>>68941320
ask for the titles your interested in, its mostly for people who are new or interested in film to find more films that wouldnt be suggested to them by general people
best place on /tv/ desu
>>68941320
I don't know what to tell you, man. Lurk moar or watch more films, many of these are easily recognizable. Some aren't though, so if one catches your eye, just ask what it is.
In regards to the point, imo the goal of my grid is to not only pic interesting individual shots, but to arrange them in a way that makes the grid as a whole look nice. All the while, of course, giving others and idea of your taste, and subsequently seeing how it compares to others' and getting recs
>>68941419
every time i ask they never answer because their post is 4 hours old and they've disappeared from the thread forever.
why not just list the films in your 3x3 instead of being purposefully obtuse?
>>68941437
i'm not new here, these threads just haven't been anything other than people who like the same films jerking each other off over them, the same as on /mu/.
>>68941502
But clearly if you weren't new here, you'd know new people come in all time and get recs. The people here for the most part are friendly and more than willing to give recs, they're not pretentious or elite about their taste at all. Perhaps there isn't always discussions about the films themselves, but that's because the point of the thread is an evaluation of taste and platform on which to find new movies. That's not to say there is discussion here though. Like the other guy said, this may honestly be the best place on /tv/
>>68941619
mate its just annoying as fuck when someone posts something interesting, the poster disappears, and no one knows what the fuck it is.
>>68941502
these threads are the main source that fill my watchlist
besides its nice to reflect on your own taste
and its visually appealing
>>68941685
true
they are always dead when I wake up
which wouldn't happen on /film/ just saying
>>68941685
You seem sincere, sorry that happened. There are definitely some people that post grids with no intention of telling where the stills are from, but these threads generally don't support that. Also there were a couple meme grids accompanied with "get some fucking taste" that I actually kind of miss, because they weren't serious.
May I suggest making a grid of your own? Your bound to get more out of the thread that way
>>68941502
i do understand that and i used to have the same problem, happens less now bc i know which still are which and i'm pretty good at remembering them
i've said previously that i'm against posting the titles with the chart, mainly because it gives the other anons an easy way of finding the films (not that i dont want other people to find the films) i just feel that if they are spoonfed them without actually wanting them, they will not be as interested
there are thousands of imdb/mubi/lbg lists of films that are covered here and are more accessible, but this is my favorite place as one still can interest a person enough to want to watch the whole filmjust my opinion
>>68941685
tell me which titles you want and i'll see if i can name them for you, patience also helps because these threads are forever
>>68941811
i agree highly with the end part, posting without chart is kind of hard to get any replies at all in these threads

I always thought I was a pleb (see >>68941925 ) but you are awful. Just awful.
>>68942260
Tarkovsky's Stalker. Tark is essential entry to "art house" and is considered by many to be the best director ever.
>>68942336
>Tron
>>68942216
Obscure's probably not the best word, but I guess just good films that you can't really find unless you know what you're looking for.
I'm pretty much a pleb when it comes to films so almost everything I know is whatever was the most popular for the time i.e. star wars, apocalypse now, etc.
I feel like I'm missing out on a lot and you guys would know some interesting stuff to check out.
>>68942383
thanks. every time i do this, it's already on my watchlist. i've only seen the sacrifice but i enjoyed it, think i'll watch stalker tonight.
>>68942406
Mekas, brakhage, akerman, hani
that's entry level obscure
>>68942406
I think I know what you mean. Most of these are by no means obscure, but certainly not ones you'd hear about from casual movie goers
Bergman
Bresson
Tarkovsky
Fellini
Teshigahara
Fassbinder
I'm pretty new too, I haven't even fully dug into those names, but let me know how many you've heard of, I've got some more names, both more and less obscure/accessible
>>68942406
its still kind of hard to what you mean because it could range from anyone from mao mao to paul clipson
if you're on about experimental entry level then this >>68942626 with a large pinch of salt are some good recs
if just general world cinema then >>68942671 is good for anyone who wants to get into world cinema, sight and sounds top 50 kinda outlays the major works (the directors of the films listed can be looked into with more detail) but i normally rec that to anyone who has an interest
>>68942406
>>68942406
If you have fav directors you should watch more of their stuff if you haven't, and if you can find it watch the movie that inspired them.

this medium is not for you, please stop posting
>>68943596
stop being such a fucking cuck holy SHIT, are you trying to get that guy off acting like his little bitch?
watch what you want. no, that doesn't indicate anything those charts are lumped together entirely incidentally.
watch whatever you like, dig into directors and movements you like, and try to think of film more critically to better articulate what you do and don't like
and most importantly forget /tv/ as any sort of authority, it's mostly 18-20 year olds who will call 90% of directors 'hacks' and praise tarkovsky and tarr because slower film means more easily watched in fast forward
>>68943647
and i don't mean it in a snobby way, but you're obviously forcing yourself to enjoy films

Usually one a day. Sometimes more, sometimes less. According to Letterboxd, I'm sitting at 123 for the year.
