I dont think its as simple as saying racism is bad. The movie introduces children to the use of stereotyping in society while challenging popular ideologies about race and ethnicity. It shows that there is a reasonable position between cyncial racial-determinism and hyper-liberal "race-blindness". This is the lesson that the main characters learn.
