Me and some other guys last night had the idea of basically making a DCEU general. I look at it as an act of good faith on the part actual fans of these films and a way to differentiate us from the stupid "company war" threads that are cluttering up the board.
It also serves to bring a sense of decorum that actively discourages baiting and raises the discussion out of the gutter.

X-Men is interpreting its source material with a fair degree of faithfulness. Its source material is pretty unambiguously a metaphor for a mixture of racism, bigotry, and homophobia.
At its heart, it's about seeking acceptance and equality, so it shares at least that much in common with Snyder's depiction of Superman; however, Superman as a "first contact" is a new element injected into the narrative specifically by these films, at least to the best of my knowledge. If anyone has any example of stories from the comics where he's examined from such an angle, let me know.
Being heavy-handed and preachy is a subjective criticism, that's only applicable if it's selling the message "Superman=God." Most fans of the films don't see them in that light.
