What are some really scary movies that aren't actually horror movies?
>>
Tommy. I can't make myself watch it again
>>
>>68873504
I suppose you could add Mulholland Drive and Lost Highway to the list. Maybe Antichrist or Heavenly Creatures
>>
>>68873678
Lost Highway and Antichrist are classic examples of horror movies.
>>
>>68873504
One Hour Photo
creepy ugly guy is in love with a chick and her son and wants a hot 3 way with them.
>>
>>68873504
chappie

the implications
>>
>>68873727
That scene where he cried blood was frightening.
>>
under the skin?

some people do consider it horror but i don't know
>>
>>68873737
>the Indian dude is okay with death
>the girl is okay with robotic head
>>
>>68873504
Dogtooth
it's got subtitles, but it's worth it
>>
>>68873504
Cape Fear
>>
>>68873707
Maybe Antichrist, so my bad, but last I checked Lost Highway isn't marketed as a horror movie, maybe a thriller, but that's not quite the same.
>>
>>68873737
I'm gonna get shit for this, but I unironically thought Chappie was bretty good. It was cheapened, though, by the fact that it's literally a very expensive Die Antwoord advertisement.

We get it, Neil, you like Die Antwoord, but why not shoot a new music video with them instead of ruining an entire fucking film that, quite frankly, might have been decent without them.

Nice one, you fucking spastic.

>sharlto copley though, love him
>>
>>68873859
Fucking fantastic film. The older autistic daughter is my nuts waifu.

This pretty much had me on the edge of my seat the whole time
>>
Berberian Sound Studio

Great movie. Never gets enough attention.
>>
Santa Sangre by Jodorowsky. Cache by Haneke was pretty creepy as well.

It's fucking intense, good movie. I'm not gonna spoil anything for you.

i wish alia shawkat tits were shown at some point tho

Eyes Wide Shut.

If there was coal in my butthole it would have been diamonds.

>>68874094
the cute one? great tits.
Good movie too. Fucked up
>>
I find psychological thrillers terrifying. Especially those about mental illness.

>Take Shelter
>Clean, Shaven
Had to turn this off. I'm too neurotic for it.
>Caché by Haneke
It's is just pure dread and foreboding. The Seventh Continent is as scary.
>Heart of Glass by Herzog
The mood is just amazing. Creepy as fuck.
>Come and See
Some scenes in this will stay with me forever.
>Polanski's Macbeth
>The Red Riding Trilogy
>Lost Highway
Still afraid to rewatch it. Probably the most disturbing film I've ever seen, apart from this:
>Salo (Pasolini)
>Zodiac
That dread and tension. The murder scenes really upset me, too. Very real and shocking.
>Blue Velvet
>2001: A Space Odyssey
>Naked (Mike Leigh)
The sex scene is just fucked up.
>Eyes Wide Shut
The mood. The sense of foreboding.
>Donnie Darko
From when I was younger.

>>68874194
Brilliant choice. I loved it.
>>
Snowtown
Irreversible
Deliverance
>>
>>68873678
>Heavenly Creatures
wasn't that more of a drama by Peter Hackson?

>>68874447
Great film.
But her tits wouldn't make sense. Give it a few more films anon.

I'd rec Cache. Or anything Haneke. Other than Amour, most of his stuff is brutal and hard to stomach.
>>
>>68874639
Top choices. Snowtown is a watch once and never again. Such a hard watch.

>>68874626
>Herzog film

I'd throw in Even Dwarfs Start Small. Guy knows how to fuck with the audience.
Speaking of, I'd also say Julien Donkey Boy or Gummo.
>>
>>68874492
Fucking this, what a tense fucking film. I always recommend this to people looking for different type of horror
>>
Enter the void has that fucking horrifying car crash scene

people tell me this, are they full of shit?
>>
>>68874775
Recently, I watched the Pasolini biopic with Willem Dafoe in it and OF COURSE they showed the scene that disturbed me the most in it.

It's the one where the old red-head creepy bastard gets fucked up the ass.
>>
whatever the fuck that documentary on sleep paralysis was called
>>
Trash Humpers might be goofy in parts but parts of it were kind of unnerving especially when you read about how the movie was based on stories he had heard in his neighborhood as a kid of a group of old weirdos going around doing actual shit like that.
>>
>>68875278
MAKE IT MAKE IT DONT FAKE IT
Korine is a genius btw
>>
>>68875278
This. One of the funniest movies I've seen, but truly shocking at parts. I watched it really late the first time I saw it, and just as I was drifting off to sleep, it cut to them strangling a guy in his house. Add that to stuff like the "Three little devils" song constantly going and I was sufficiently frightened.

I really did laugh though, especially at the chubby kid in the beginning
>>
>>68875278
I thought gummo was more unnerving than trash humpers. TH just seemed kinda boring to me tbqh
>>
>>68875398
Gummo came off as more sad to me like somewhere these are real people and these are their fucking lives
>>
>>68875548
I guess that's why it was so unnerving to me. It's hard to believe people live like that
>>
>>68874882
The phone call scene is honestly so ficking unnerving

http://youtu.be/VtjTdQAgnJ0
>>
>>68873504
Psychological horror is the only scary kind of horror.
>>
>>68875654
That ain't true. Peak scares you get are from good to great jump scares.
>>
>>68875699
Is this some new meme? Being startled isn't the same as being scared

I don't normally watch these kinds of movies, but fuck Eraserhead. that scene in the house where they're eating dinner particularly made me nervous as fuck

I liked the younger one, the one licking.

They're both top tier autismfus though
>>
>>68874648
i know they wouldn't make sense and even if they shown them while the dog eats her or something i wouldn't feel aroused. At least not unless i looked up that one scene just to fap.

since you have good taste enough to recognise my film, care to recommend some other stuff?
>>
>>68873859
>it's got subtitles, but it's worth it

top fucking kek
>>
lots of good ones already in this thread, i'll say
Todd Hayne's Safe
Bergman's Persona
Cronenberg's Maps to the Stars

oh man that terrified me as a kid.

>SERIOUSLY WTF IS THIS SHIT
>>
This movie was really unsettling at times.
Had some really good horror like scenes
>>
>>68874775
Salo is a piece of worthless shit.

No reason for it to be made apart from being "edgy".

The ManBat nightmare scene in Batman V Superman scared the shit out of me in cinemas.

I hope Affleck's standalone movie has more unsettling stuff like this.
>>
>>68876014
Maps to the Stars ain't shit compared to some of Cronnenberg's earlier stuffs. It isn't even scary bro.
>>
>>68876069
Agreed
>>
>>68873859
I prefer Dogfart
>>
>>68876149
oh i know, videodrome is absolutely terrifying. those films are actually horror films though.
>>
>>68876185
i don't consider videodrome, eXistenz or naked lunch horror movies. Yet all three of them are all like an adventure that goes nowhere and the whole ride is kind of nigtmareish.
>>
A History of Violence. It's not a horror movie, despite being Cronenberg.

Still deeply unsettling.
>>
>>68873504
idk if I am the only one but this movie has some real terrifying scenes; that demon baby, those demon children that torment Judas.

Even the thought that Judas is burning in hell as we speak due to betraying Jesus and committing suicide is horrific nonetheless.
>>
>>68876254
Yep, like how Lynch movies are scary as hell but not technically horror. More like bizzarre surreal stuffs with intense atmosphere.
>>

buddyboy.jpg
11 KB, 214x317
Creepy atmosphere, more of a slow-burn mystery than a horror film.
>>
>>68876297
I wish Dune had more of a scary atmospheric feel.
>>
>>68876114
I AGREE
>>
Valhalla Rising

Her face is photoshopped with another's in a later scene.

>Warning: very frightening image
>>
>>68874882
It's very good/creepy for a movie about the Mothman
>>
>>68877218
even more creepy that it is a true story
>>
>>68874882
extremely unnerving and creepy. not a fantastic film, but really spoopy and it gets you thinking about possible fourth dimensional beings. especially because its more or less true.
