What are some other movies that really break the 4th wall?

I can't remember anything that had any significant scenes where this occurred, apart from the 90's meme of 'tfw looking dead into the camera for a few seconds'.

Obviously this serves its purpose in the film as the character does this constantly, but it got me thinking about other movies in general.

Bonus points for lists.

I was thinking about whether to include parody comedies, because breaking the wall in one for hem doesn't have any significance so it's not really a shock. I can actually recall a few other films where that happens.

I suppose expecting any significant fourth wall break in a non-comedy film is incredibly rare when you think about it.

Yea.

You can actually just Google "movies that broke the fourth wall" and come up with any number of lists that have already been complied.

I know you like to communicate with people on 4chan because it makes you feel less alone, but the work has literally already been done and there is no need to work harder rather than smarter.

What the hell is the fourth wall. I'm assuming since everyone else seems to know what it is i'm gonna get called a newfag. But after you call me a newfag can you guys tell me what it is.

Just when the characters look directly into the camera/address the audience.

It's called breaking the wall because it Disrupts the natural order that usually keeps the two worlds separate.

Cop Dog, the prequel to Army Dog does a good job of this.
When Cop Dog comes to the location of known gang members, he turns to the camera, smiles, and says "Gee, I hope I don't have to shoot any spics today!", which he follows with a wink.

I'd say PT, because there's a moment the Walking Dead guy looks back, and the starting of the game is saying where you see your self walking... which is how it ends. Some of the fan concepts for the game was the third-person aspect of the game. We are the UFOs.
>>
>>68871359
Ah, i kinda figured it had something to do with that based on the conversation. Thanks. So would the office be a good example of this? They seem to do that a lot. Jim comes to mind, but really the whole show seems to be based on it

It comes from before the invention of movies. It comes from stage plays. A set is typically three walls, one being open so the audience can see the actors. The fourth wall is the invisible wall between the stage and the audience. Breaking the fourth wall is violating that barrier. Generally you don't do it because it breaks immersion but sometimes it's okay for dramatic effect or comedy.

I really don't want to derail this thread any further, so i'll stop here, but the wiki definition isn't necessarily the same as how you guys are using it.

In this case, it seems to be. Anyway this is my first day on the internet so thanks for the tip about this "google" it was very helpful.

As much as above, ya goofed. But just to clarify that wouldn't apply as the office is a pseudo documentary. Jim looking at the camera isn't breaking the fourth wall because there is a camera crew there in the show.

What
>>
>>68868857
uhh no?
>>
>>68871806
Right that's why i asked, wasn't sure if that show qualified. Just seemed like an interesting example, as it's not really a documentary, but a comedy sitcom type show pretending to be a documentary.

And don't they pretty much never show the camera crew? I mean it was described above that breaking the fourth wall hurts immersion in the show, and there were plenty of times i forgot that show was trying to be a "documentary". Anyways, sure i dun goofed again but just trying to understand what qualifies.

Jesus Christ, tvtrops is such a shitty fedora website. You can tell all the smug users there who think they're intellectual because they've seen Fight Club, but then they don't list any Godard films or Alfie, much less other Brechtian influenced cinema.

Funny Games
Literally the entire movie the villains are conscious of the 4th wall. They even egg on the viewer at the end to rewatch it, to force their victims to go through it all again.

The fourth wall makes sense in theater but depending on the scene the film or tv character isn't necessarily breaking the fourth wall just by looking into the camera.
>>
>>68875416
The entire film is Henry telling us his story, he broke the fourth wall the moment the movie started.
