there is literally only one single nazi on the whole boat, and he gets singled out in a scene where every other character acts bewildered at his choice of voluntarily joining the fight.
the only other nazis are 3 or 4 people on a supply boat, and when they salute, the crew doesn't answer their salute (a ridiculous affront for armymen and therefore completely unrealistic).
das boot is an outstanding movie, but it is ridiculously PC in that regard.

Germany isn't capable of making a war film where the hero isn't a deserter who hates the government and doesn't understand why he's fighting or why partisans have to be punished.

The allies are all brutally killing and murdering soldiers who surrender while the Germans are all civilized and behaved. At the same time you root for the opposite because of the propaganda film just like the propaganda film that is shown in the plot.
