Here's my problem with that - Superman was done properly in movies for most of his history. All those artists were recognisably handling that story and character, and understanding what they were doing. It's only the pretentious turn in comic book movies since the Raimi Spider-Man that demands everyone be tortured and angsty, to indulge the audience's self-pity, that makes him impossible to do straight. The current Superman interpretation in movies is not individual, but conformist.
