Have they really gone off-script from the GRRM books?

I couldn't tell.
>>
Yeah I wouldn't be one bit surprised if this was something GRRM wrote
>>
Who cares? The show already has its audience. They could do whatever they want.
>>
>tfw russian subtitles saved me from this horrible dialogue
>>
>>68761924
You could literally hear the laugh-track they were dying to splice into the show at that point.
>>
Eh. I laughed. The show has long since lost any hope of being a good drama so it might as well pivot to comedy.
>>
Was it a Conan reference?

Well, I am ashamed to admit, but I found the jokes funny too. They weren't so cringy as Sand Snake lines and they fit the situation, It wasn't like they arrested someone crucially important.
>>

>>
The fact that this scene pisses bookfags off so much makes me love it even more.
>>
This part would have been a really bad Xena episode and still it wasn't the worst part of the episode (you can't really compete with the sneks in being shit, tbqh)
>>
This scene felt like THRONE MOVIE from the Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer duo.

Seriously, the actors, the set, the dialog-it's perfectly terrible.

episode seemed to be perfectly written

I really didnt mind the dotraki banter. They were always kind of "dudebros" and I was mildly amused. But the Daenerys plot walks in circles all the time. Adding self-ironic quips ("we are not going to vesteros anytime soon") doesnt make it clever or more interesting

>>
>>68763613

No, again, you're quite correct. Composing a syncretic patois drawing from multiple time periods both requires less effort and less grasp of language, thus denoting complete lack of either competence or commitment.

You don't like it. Fine. You don't like it. Stop pretending it's this objectively awful indicator of buffoonish ineptitude. It's just a choice that didn't work for you.

>>68763705

The point isn't what language they're translating from, but how they're going about the translation. If they actually did what people ITT seem to be clamouring for, very few people, including the people ITT making the fucking complaints, would actually be understand the subtitles.

The criticism amounts to being annoyed that the subtitles aren't parroting the kind of pseudo-medieval creole common to many medieval and medieval-fantasy settings. Sorry, but I just can't sympathise. Both the show and the books have always tended to deviate from that lazy, reflexive received vocabulary, and all the fucking better for it.

>>68764075

I don't think you're quite understanding me. 'Dothraki' isn't really a language, m8, and if it is, it's almost surely just a phonetic recoding of the native language of whoever invented it.

The criticism of the subtitles is (and I don't think I'm being unfair to it): People in medieval fantasy settings don't talk like that

My response has simply been to say that a) so what, that's not an actual rule and b) it's especially ridiculous to be criticising the language by the wording of the subtitles, when the whole point of subtitles is to translate them into something the reader can comprehend.

Sorry if you live in one of those loser non-English-speaking countries, but it ain't my problem and it's got nothing to do with what I'm talking about. Next time try harder to get born somewhere good.

Dany convinces the dothraki to join her. Jorah probably gets himself killed in the process. They go back to Meereen, the Ironborn provide ships, Dany enters Westeros through Dorne and then its Dany/Ironborn/Dorne vs White Walkers.

And to be honest this fanfiction is probably not too far from the truth.

> those terrible northerners are rapists, murderers

Not /pol/, but I mean, we've literally seen some of the actual wildlings literally murdering smallfolk. If you want to disagree, do so on the basis that it's better to let them in than to let them become wights. There's no point pretending they're highly cultured gentlemen.

>he points out that she is literally meat and her body should thus be fed to the hounds. Even for Ramsay that’s pretty low
>his one friend, partner in crime, and longtime lover was not a person to him but a fleshy object

He also vows revenge a thousandfold. So he's not big on funeral rites - how is that 'the worst'? How is it even especially low for a serial rapist who hunts women to death? How are we meant to really give a fuck about Myranda when she was the same?

>a handful of men (and boys!) finally get what’s coming to them at the hands of a group of marginalized women
>for now she felt heroic

Yaaaay they murdered a teenager! Having previously murdered his teenage fiancee! Girl power! This is fetishising depictions of female agency well past any reasonable point.

>Even Daenerys only manages to avoid being sexually assaulted again because she was assaulted by a different guy in the past.

Sigh. It wasn't rape.

>Melisandre, whose reveal as an old crone was a great misandrist twist and another total reversal of the way Game of Thrones typically treats women’s bodies.

The intention is that we be horrified. The tropes of women as deceptive, untrustworthy and manipulative are clearly invoked. Her true character is revealed to us through her physicality, thus maintaining and reinforcing, rather than subverting, the objectifying male gaze.

These people are very, very bad both at critiquing television and at being feminists.

>That sounds like something that you would do.

Fucking HACKS going and CHANGING things.

I assumed it was Monty Python. Either 'What have the romans ever done for us?' or the Spanish Inquisition.
>>

>Spanish Inquistion
I keep seeing people saying that this scene was like that skit, but I don't really see any parallels. The romans skit, sure, but not the spanih inquistion. Maybe I'm just retarded though, someone care to spoonfeed me?

This scene was so bad and so predictable. I would've rather had them say they killed him off screen.

Season 1:
>The stallion that mounts the world
>Moon of my life
>Sun and stars
Season 6:
>You ever been with a girl with white pussy hair?
>She doesn't have to be smart to be fucked in the ass
>Seeing a beautiful woman naked for the first time is among the five best things in life.

So, like, a language?

Also

> hurr durr they wouldn't say pussy

The subtitles are made for people in the 2010s, not the 1510s. Whatever Dothraki word means 'pejorative name for female genitalia' translates as pussy or cunt. If he wanted it, he'd have used the Dothraki word for vagina.

S1: Ritual courting dialogue between engaged nobles, continued as cutesy coupley young-love stuff.

S6: Not that.

It's over, bro. Seasons 1 and 2 have Dothraki telling each other to find somewhere else to put their cocks and Season 2 has them telling people to go fuck themselves. The fact that not ALL Dothraki dialogue used that cant is irrelevant. All that matters is that some of it did because the showrunners have constructed a syncretic patois, and your objection crumbles to dust. Bitter, tryhard, posturing dust.

>So, like, a language?

Let's say we take English and simply assign a new phoneme to each syllable. This is what I'm calling a 'phonetic recoding', since properly, in terms of its grammatical structure, the language is really still just English.

Similarly, an artificially constructed language where the creator simply takes English words and creates new terms for them, is really still just English.

The rest of your post I agree with. That's basically what I've been saying.
>>
>>68773734
It's irrelevant who's saying it, the point is that those sayings from the first season were figures of speech that represented unique Dothraki manners of describing things that distinguished them from other languages and cultures somewhat and now we have banter that could be lifted directly from an Apatow movie. And repeatedly using the phrase syncretic patios on 4chan while calling out someone for posturing is the absolute height of idiotic obliviousness.

Dothraki were a fearsome savage race who called boats wooden horses. These guys just seem like a stupid gang you could find in King's Landing.

Fuck this was stupid.

HAHA GET IT GUYS ITS LIKE MONTY PYTHON, DO YOU GET IT?

>It's irrelevant who's saying it

No, it's not. One of them is a tribal leader, the other is a princess and they are engaged in courtship. Then they are a young couple.

In 6x1, both the henchmen and the Khal are not addressing a noteworthy individual but, from their perspective, a newly captured slave.

You realise that both of the lines I've quoted from earlier seasons are said by Drogo, right? He talks in a very different way when he's giving orders to an insubordinate junior. He talks in a very different way when he's describing blaspheming. Clearly, he is capable of speaking in either mode because I ain't gonna say it, you know. Clearly, he does so in earlier seasons and thus, clearly, you are blown the fuck out and the discussion is over.

I ain't even gonna reply anymore, bro. The criticism is objectively confirmed to be bullshit and I've got better things to do than sit around babysitting your bruised ego. Deal with it.

One of your quotes uses the term "Great Stallion" which is a unique Dothraki concept/phrase. The other uses "khal". Although "khal" is used in the newest episode as well as "it is known" if you eliminated those phrases there would be nothing to indicate you were hearing the words from a different culture. Reply if you want, but methinks the lady doth protest too much about bruised egos and having to say how hard you won the argument.

GRRM's books are more entertaining
>>
>>68761924

>>68761924

They are going offroad on their own, but GRRM told them more or less how the story would end and told them about important key points in the story, so the show can catch up to the books in the end more or less and have a SIMILAR ending.

GoT has pretty much entered Marvel/DC multi-universe. You have two cannons, show cannon and book cannon, each in a different universe.
