Been watching/rewatching a lot of old science fiction series lately (Star Gate and Babylon 5 amongst others) and jesus christ, they haven't aged well. Generally bad acting, bad danger of the week plotting, bad looking aliens and horrible CG.

Are there any SF series which haven't aged badly?
>>

Stargate Atlantis had fucking phenomenal CGI.

Also going to say Farscape.

It's cheesey, but it feels like the same cheesey it did when it first aired.

Rodney was the only saving grace of that show, imo. And he still suffered from the horribly repetitive plots and over the top quip tier writing.

Yeah, Rodney and the medical guy whose name I can't remember were basically the good characters in the show.

Wait, what?

Nigga, I am rewatching SG-1 RIGHT NOW, and it has aged perfectly well. Even the CGI is still good, outside of a couple of scenes where it just looks a bit dodgy, but it's the fucking 90s on 15mm film nigga, I ain't gonna complain.

The only thing that is outdated in the narrative is the way they do cliffhangers at the end of a season half way through episodes. You don't see that shit any more, and thank Apophis for that.
>>
Where can I find Stargate SG1 in good quality, like on netflix? I only see those shitty dvdrips everywhere
>>
>>68738799
The stargate ultimate fan collection is probably about as good as it gets. It has everything; I even think it has the original version of Children of the Gods (with the nudity). I doubt the actual physical DVDs will be of much higher quality.
>>
>>68737507
Woolsey got some good character development, and I still miss Weir's early seasons.
>>
>>68738170
Yeah, just watched one of the three parters again last night, it's like a really good RPG campaign: fucking nuts, but the endearing, colourful kind of nuts that you get invested in and love all the characters.

>15mm film
This, I love the first three seasons so much because of how they're shot. I'm so used to everything being digital these days it was a pleasant surprise starting my rewatch last year and seeing that 90s type of filming
>>
>>68737154
If you're watching the B5 DVDs then the CGI is going to look worse than how it originally aired because it's cropped. It really is something they should feel ashamed to have released.

Enough with the retarded "this hasn't aged well" meme, if you have different tastes or expectations now than you did when they were on the air it's your own damn fault, don't blame the shows

Babylon 5 is a fantastic series. SG1 was never that great to begin with, still comfy and watchable though.

Oh, and I agree with everyone recommending Farscape. It is the greatest sci-fi series, maybe the greatest series of any genre
>>
>>68745046

> if you have different tastes or expectations now than you did when they were on the air it's your own damn fault, don't blame the shows

This isn't a very good argument against the 'dated' fallacy. A better argument would be that expecting something old to look new is foolishness.
>>

>>
>>68737477
Farscape is the best series to come out of SF, IMO. And it's aged like wine. I rewatched all four seasons plus Peacekeeper Wars a few months ago and it was better than I'd remembered it.

Also dem 10/10 alien qts...

Just to hijack the thread for a minute, who is the hottest alien bitch in Farscape and why is it Sikozu?

I'd like to have sex with her if you know what I'm saying.

>>68737870
>>
>>68745342
How do you even enjoy sci-fi television at all if you can't handle early season growing pains?
>>
>>68745458
Farscape gets better every time I watch it, I've reached the post where I have seen every episode at least 7-8 times, and yes that includes Taking the Stone.

Season 1 is criminally underrated, but I can understand why someone would hate it if they're just starting. On rewatch, knowing where the characters and story are headed makes the early adventures feel really comfy and charming.
>>
>>68745184
Farscape has better character development than any other SciFi I could name. It might have ripped off Lexx slightly with the whole 'living ship' concept but in terms of genuinely giving a fuck about the characters of a show and what happens to them it doesn't get much better than Farscape.

It's for this exact reason I almost wish I'd never seen Peacekeeper Wars. Any Farscape fans ITT will know why.
>>
>>68745797
I'm the same way. I pretty much have to force myself not to rewatch it because I'm afraid I'll burn myself out of it, but I just keep liking it more each time.
>Taking the Stone
Except for that episode. I never skip it, but I grow to hate that episode more and more every time.

The living ship concept is not exclusive.
Blake's 7 did it with Liberator, way back in the 70's. There's been other examples since like Babylon 5, etc.

Why would it NOT include that. I kek every time Chrichton has to act stoned.

Also you know that episode was based on the time the cast did mushrooms at a wrap party and someone dared someone else to jump off something really high.

>>
>>68746522
>but I also love the cliffhanger ending.
Because you watched the show after it came out. To anyone who was watching the show when it was coming out it was a piece of shit ending because the network came under new management and decided to cancel the show, even though it had been renewed for 2 seasons at the start of that season.

It ends with "too be continued" because they didn't tell anyone they were canceling the show until about the time the episode was ready to air. It was a kick in the mivox to be honest. There was a massive push from the fans and the people from the show to get it picked back up by any network they could, but no one wanted it. I remember being so bummed out when I read they finally tore down the sets and threw it all out.

A few years later they made a made for sci-fi movie/mini-series called the peacekeeper wars which pretty much shoehorned the last season into a poorly paced movie.

>that entire fucking subplot about earth, already super conservative, slowly becomes a dictatorship

Seriously, even the fucking filler episodes in season 1 with their shit freak of the week shit were actually fucking great because they had a mini arc where the ship's doctor comes up to the commander of the space station and goes "Why are you putting your life at risk constantly for no reason this is not what you're supposed to be doing do you have a death wish?"

and its revealed that he has horrible PTSD and is actually, yes, intentionally getting involved with every little life threatening thing because he's a tiny bit suicidal.

Tried to watch ep 1 of Babylon 5. Got instantly turned of by the pretty bad acting of pretty much all the non-main characters (although the chick with the "I must always be professional" vibe wasn't that well acted either) and the aliens which were only distinguishable from humans because they wear a mohawk at a 90 degree angle to how 'normal' people would.

> what kind of faggot complains about a low budget tv show from the 90s

We have thousands of shows and films to pick from. So why would I waste my time with something which looks horrible, or something which needs 15 episodes to get into (at that point you may want to consider if it's just Stockholm syndrome, btw)?

Sure, maybe when you're able to get over that, it's a really good show. However, there are other good shows without these issues, so why not watch those?
