it will not stop shitposting or thread hijacking or baneposting or waifu posting...
It will still, like /tv/, be very much relying on what is on screens at any given time.
The problem is the board rules leave too much room for abuse. Baneposting for instance is movie related, therefore completely lawful as moderation goes. You would still see baneposting on /film/. It won't solve anything to split /tv/ in two, it will only double the opportunities for abuses IMO.
/film/ would need a sticky with something along the lines of "this board is dedicated to arthouse films/not lowest common denominator shit ie no capeshit" and lots of elitism from the get go

It's movie-related. But it was born in /tv/. Molded by it.
The problem isn't movies and TV sharing a board, it's the cancerous fanbases of each. If you split it, /film/ is still going to be mostly Marvel/Star Wars garbage and /tv/ will be Dr Who and GoT.
Only if you made a generals board would this be eliminated or contained.
