Does box office really matter?
even with 12 movies, MCU's average BO is slightly above DCEU's.
Why does /tv/ always bring up box office to talk about a movie's(not just capeshit) success?
>>68705195
y are dccucks still going at it?
>>68705195
>>68705195
This is interesting.
I wonder if the difference is in the marketing budget. I guess they need more money for DCU.
>>68705195
>not comparing ratios of budget/box office
Fool
>>68705195
>mfw few weeks from now Civil War beat Hack snyder shitty movie in box office
>>68705195
Everyone keeps comparing its BO to Marvels, as if its expected to hit similar heights.
No, it wont. Nor will it hit the lows.
I see DC pumping out a lot more 600 - 1.2 billion movies on the reg as opposed to Marvels 300 - 1.6ish billion totals.
The thing is, Marvel has made back over 4 times the combined budget of their movies, as opposed to DCs 3 times.
That's what's important, not the box office itself.
>>68705195
Are you fag?
Dc released literally most popular two character in pop culture still cant get 900m barely got 850m.
Nobody going to watch their solo movies(exp batman)
Green lantern which did 100M box office compare to Thor did 400M
And i can argue you lantern was more popular due cartoons in 90s tho both were niche.
While marvel took their c listers and one b list character(ironman) and made out a universe about them.
Literally whos beat Superman .
And yet they make shit money while barely getting budget.
Imagine if Marvel had f4, spidey, xmen and all villains at beginning. Then it would be fully connnected , villains that dont die in one movies.
Without xmen spiderman and fantastic4 which were most popular characters of Marvel wasnt in their hands
Just think that for a second

If BvS doesnt do a billion, nothing will.
>>68706839
>600m
Are you hack snyder?
Which DC movie will hit that?
Squad maybe because it has 15 character and batman and joker.
Which single movie going to hit that?
Man of steel is barely hit 700m
Which was long coming reboot also with nolan and dk hype
If mos2 happened there is no chance it hits mos1 levels of money.
450-500 at most due 3d tickets
Wonder woman? Its 300M at best with 3D and imax. She has 0 popularity , black widow movie could double her.
Not mention actress is shit tier i doubt she will carry whole movie
Lantern? They are ashamed to include in league due bomb
Cyborg? You wont be surprise to hear cancel announcment in weeks
Flash? With that actor and in gritty dcu
I doubt this wont be cancelled at all.
Maybe they will retcon TV series to movies.
Aquaman.
Lol come on.
There is other good characters outside of superman and batman in dc
Marvel has shit load of characters .
Thor ends, panther starts
Captain ends, ant man starts
Iron man ended, strange started
Etc etc
Basically only one who can carry them batman and his rogues
Superman is just carrying due popularity of character
This is only because DC has used their big hitters, whereas marvel has used B listers and others.
Once DC releases Cyborg, Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter etc movies you can expect that average to go way down.
>>68705195
Unfortunately those two DCEU movies will probably be the highest grossing movies in the franchise.
>tfw no evans poster
>>68707118
Civil War will :)
Thread is going elsewhere. I just wanted to know if box office is the only measure for success. More like art vs business
>>68707528
It's obviously not the only measure, but it is the most tangible. Films are products, and the success of any product measures profit.
>>68707528
Well the problem with that is for the most part art is subjective. Even with Critic aggregate sites like metacritic and RT if someone believes a film is good, it's damn impossible to change their mind. Whereas Box office is a strictly objective measurement of success. If a film makes money, it's a success.
>>68707528
Critical acclaim is important, but having a profit is obviously why are you are making a movie.
>>68705195
It's hardly comparable now anon. Those first two movies had DC's big guns while the MCU started with C listers (Don't any of you pretend Captain America or Thor were popular before the MCU) Cap 1 didn't even make over 350mil worldwide if I remember rightly. Marvel had to start with low expectations and they knew that so they built the brand and now that brand is trusted and well loved to the point that people will still go and see films like GOTG and Ant-Man
Meanwhile DC has had a terrible start and the brand is in the toilet. If the DCEU is to survive Suicide Squad has to be good. If not and even if a miracle happens and Wonder Woman is good it would still be 4/5 poorly received movies
>>68707085
The important thing to remember is that none of Marvels phase 1 stand alones beat Man of Steel
WB could have crushed Marvel if they got in on this much, much sooner and if they had a competent director they would be competitive now
>>68708147
>Superman Movie Made More Money Than Marvel C Listers
Yes, and the sun rose at dawn, what's your point?
>>68708236
That Marvel had to put in a lot of work. It took until their 6th movie to crack a billion. While DC just expected it on name a lone
ASM2 making just over 700mil should have taught them that name alone won't work
>>68708147
>Movies about c-listers without 3d or imax to boost sales that were released before the world-wide market boom failed to make more money than a superman movie with these things.
What a surprise.
Also, don't forget about inflation.
my observations.
>>68708359
All MCU movies released in 3D(except first 2 ironman)
>>68705195
Now go and calculate the average budgets in the DCEU and MCU
>>68705195
>>68707491
>>68705195
It's okay, Captain America: Civil War will make 2 billion to make up for it.
