Do I have the right to say it's a GOAT BOAT?

Best episode desu

>Hey Bro i’m sorry mom and dad grounded you and you cant see your Samuel Anderson. maybe i can be your Samuel Anderson tonight?

Being one of the few full serials I've watched, I'd say it runs a bit long with all the sub plots and filler scenes but it's still pretty GOAT

I guess... I'm not gonna pretend to know what I don't but I'll definitely take time this summer to watch it.

sure... you definitely took a lot of time to format it in the way you did
Reminder that I would fuck ALL THIRTEEN!

oh fuck i havent seen him in a while
Please don't change the way you make your /who/ generals, they're passing my filter.
>>68671337
Entertaining. Would've been much better as a 4-parter.
>>68672282
Good to see you Anon. Would you still want to fuck "all" of the doctors if they decide to go with the combo breaker woman doctor? How will I know you're still around if not? ;_;
>>68672351
You mean that face and those finger nails don't haunt your dreams? You lucky bastard.
>>68672430
how come many times in classic who they would make a story 6 or 7 parts if they knew they only had enough plot for 4 parts
>>68671894
DON'T FUCKING TOUCH ME YOU NAIL DEMON
>>68672351
I don't mean to burst your bubble but he's been cast as the new companion.

No one cares, I'm gay. I crave the Sam cock.
>>68671337
So why is this story called Genesis of the Daleks? I'm kind of confused
>>68673051
Are there any other shots you can crop and make SFW of this guy? Sometimes in the thumbnail it looks as much like a bearded freddie mercury as it does Sam.
>>68673089
He's almost got a feminine body doesn't he?I mean this is what Belle's step mother looks like, with a different head, albeit just as unfortunate.
>>68673130
Clala has one too you know, not that you'd be particularly interested. There's a guy that looks vaguely like capaldi if you squint too
>>68672623
>Women in my /who/
Is there any salvation in sight?
>>68673263
There's almost always been women in /who/. Including some of the most talented photoshoppers.
I have to say that Samuel Anderson, even though he's anig, is pretty attractive.
He doesn't have ape-like facial features like american blacks do

They didn't chose the number of episodes after coming up with a plot. Rather, the writer was commissioned a number of scripts and had to come up with a plot to fill them.

>>68673658
We don't see his dick. It's technically SFW.

How does that make you feel? Do you feel more of a connection to companions and by extension the doctors having gone through these chronologically? Do you think from your prospective that you have greater insight to the doctor who 'verse/canon or connection the characters?

http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/Toast
>>68671337
It was the first Classic Who serial I watched and it was fantastic. I thought it was dumb to have the Dalek trigger the wire so The Doctor didnt have to answer the tough question.
But after seeing The Witch's Familiar, I realise I much prefer that to The Doctor having his cake and eating it too, and retroactively giving Davros "mercy" or whatever.

>>68682400
Yeah, Troughton during his final season was brutal.
Between the sheer amount of stuff with the season 6 team, badly written books and the Doctor and Zoe shitting on Jamie, it was a rough go.
Next burnout period I'm really worried about is Season 19b. The sheer amount of Nyssa boggles the mind.
>>68682540
Loved it, a great change of pace from everything before it.
Looking forward to Iris's next appearance.
>>68682825
Fortunately, Five and Nyssa are a good team.

I thought to make a fanvid for the final tournament. Unfortunately, I won't have the time.
So what did /who/ think of the new companion/trailer?
>>68681614
L&M was kinda fun until those last 5 minutes, which I have tried to erase from my mind ever since. But it stays....like a stubborn verruca.
>>68682825
How about the 3DAs? I don't think a lot of people here have heard them
>>68683170
autism
>>68683170
Trailer itself looked rushed, but the Doctor and Bill are good.
>>68682914
They are, but with 42 stories between Time Flight and Arc, thats a lot of stuff with no major development for either characters.
and that's all well before the !old Nyssa stuff to.
Granted I actively dread reaching Ace.
>>68683237
The Treloar stuff? I enjoyed them, but the stories were nothing hugely new or different.
I think he does a fine job as Pertwee as the Third Doctor.
I'm looking forward to the next set.
>>68683302
At least after a while with Ace you get a brief refresher period with the addition of best girl Raine
I'm interested how you'll handle the many different endings of Ace
my deepart finished
>>68683302
>Granted I actively dread reaching Ace.
>look at the timeline
>it places the whole Ace/Hex/7 era AFTER the end of the VNAs
What the christ?
>>68683512
That's one of my personal issues, I really can't reconcile the post survival timelines.
Putting VNAs after BF means she's basically forgotten years of her life in Genesys and the doctor makes no effort to fix it. Which even for a manipulative bastard is cruel.
While putting BF after the VNAs wipes out a ton of her character development.
So yeah, 7/ace is gonna be a bitch.
>>68683760
>Putting VNAs after BF means she's basically forgotten years of her life in Genesys and the doctor makes no effort to fix it
I mean, by the end of the whole BF affair Ace is virtually back to status quo characterisation because post-Gods & Monsters a shit. So I don't see it as too massive a jump from there into the VNAs (other than the fact they obviously don't reference any of what happened).
It certainly seems preferable to literally going from Ace leaving the TARDIS/hopping on her Time Bike all the way back to BF Ace. What's more, going from Lungbarrow all the way back into 'younger 7' stories seems to completely fuck with his progression as well. I don't know what that timeline dude was thinking, unless he literally meant for you to treat them as two irreconcilable timelines and go from one to the other
>black booga
>full libtard
Someone call me when Moffat is dead, not even Capaldi's acting can salvage this shit.

>Martha was fine.

>>68684521

>>68671337
The RTD and Tennant years were the most successful era of NuWho, UK-ratings wise.
Why can't they achieve this ever again?
>>68685122
>people suddenly stopped watching TV when Matt Smith became the Doctor
Sure.
Hell, the 50th anniversary only got 12 mil. viewers while fucking Voyage of the Damned had like 15 mil.
>>68685093
RTD was better at hyping stuff up and since the show was fresh it still had some novelty.
I think the only way to reach those rating again would be to give it a longer break and then hype up its return (alot) with proven actors and writers
When will we finally get the sexy companion we deserve
>>68685225
>people suddenly stopped watching TV when Matt Smith became the Doctor
Yes?
>>68685284
I've noticed that there are more UK fans who miss RTD, Tennant, 10/Rose, all that junk and still want them back 6 years later.
US fans are more likely to be fans of Smith and even Capaldi.
>>68685093
Public liked the home-made shitness and unliterariness of RTD as well as the superhero worship it offered in 10. Moffat suddenly bursting on the scene with cinematic visuals, a consciously uncool Doctor and hubristic ambitions at artistry soured the well forever. Only wider range Doctor Who fans or people who joined during Smith were capable of approaching Doctor Who from a new perspective (let alone a post-structuralist one) and thus DW was condemned never to be water cooler television again, no matter how shit or good it got.
Although who knows, maybe when Chibnall replaces Capaldi with some sex symbol and starts churning out 42-level shit everyone will like it again?
>>68685533
>the superhero worship it offered in 10
>implying it wasn't ten times worse with 11
>>68685741
rude cunt desu
>>68685607
Yes I am implying that, you're welcome. I didn't think it was an item of debate that the 10 era is far more concerned with wanking off his 'wonderfulness' than it is interrogating him as a character (happens on maybe 2 occasions, neither of which go anywhere). The absolute pinnacle is the fate of Donna, the whole of which is designed solely so that her character arc has no ending but 10 gets a nice fresh load of angst as a tradeoff. Fuck Russell fuck Russell fuck Russell, VotD_angelicdeposition.webm, etc.
>>68685533
More like public liked what they were used to. As soon as Moffat changed the format of the show alot of people who were used to RTD Who left since it was not "muh who" anymore.
Its a problem with Doctor Who, its a constantly changing show so you will always have people that dislike certain eras, alot of people just prefered RTD since that was their first experience with Doctor Who and as soon it wasnt the same they lost interest or simply refused to watch
>>68685741
i liked jenna coleman but the whole "MOST IMPORTANT THING IN THE UNIVERSE" shtick every season was fucking gay. moffag did it with amy too.
>>68686152
How would you rank Hitler?
>>68686152
Anon my balls they itch
>>68685848
Every other episode of Smith is him making giant speeches about how I'M THE DOCTOR AND I'M A FOOKIN LEGEND, I CAN FUCK YOUR SHIT UP SO DON'T FUCK WIT ME!!!!!
Literally just off the top of my head there's The Eleventh Hour, The Pandorica Opens, The Rings of Ahtaken, A Good Man Goes to War, The Time of the Angels, the list goes on and on. It's by far the era of Who most dedicated to wanking off the Doctor. The worst it got in Tennant's era is his "look me up" speech in Forest of the Dead, another Moffat episode.
>>68686183
when was hitler a companion i wiped most of matt smith doctor who from my memory
>>68685741
Hitler wasn't a companion? I don't understand. Why are people who hate Clala so retarded?
>>68685533
Did NuWho shift pop culture, or did pop culture change NuWho?
The RTD era was from a time when Harry Potter and Twilight were huge, MySpace was still a thing, and it was on the edge of where being a fangirl was dressing in goth fashion, wearing Gir backpacks and holding up sporks.
The Moffat era is from a time where we have Tumblr and Facebook, fangirls adopted a more "nerd" chic (glasses, dorky clothes) and the biggest movie franchises are Marvel and Disney.
I just think it's amazing how "fan culture" changed so drastically between the 10th and 11th Doctors.
>>68686210
i cant remember the name of the episode but it was in the catherine tate season and the doctor was stuck on a train with a monster outside and everyone is shitting themselves. he keeps trying to pull the "i'm fucking smart and the doctor listen to me faggots" shit and it backfires on him and they try to throw him out of the train which was refreshingly kekworthy.
>>68686210
>The Pandorica Opens
Explicitly critiques the cliché by having it backfire on him.
>A Good Man Goes to War
As above but multiplied by 10000000. I mean this episode alone pretty much defeats your entire point, it is an episode in which the Doctor's entire shock and awe strategy goes completely wrong thanks to his pettiness and lack of care (as a side note, he is unfavourably contrasted against the unassuming and non-destructive Rory) and he gets completely excoriated at the end for having inspired an armed response to him in the first place.
>The Rings of Ahtaken
It fails
>The Eleventh Hour
>The Time of the Angels
Oh yeah, those are fun. Golly you've stumped me.
>>68686210
>The Eleventh Hour
eh it's his first episode, of course they're going to give him a big moment to make viewers accept the youngest ever actor to play the part as THE Doctor. I'd say fair enough.
>Time of the Angels
what speech was this? the "don't ever put me in a trap line"? hardly a speech imo but so what if it is? all he does is shoot a gravity globe.
>The Pandorica Opens
the famous speech is a bluff that fails because he got shit totally wrong

They're unreconcilable. Why try reconciling them?
>>68686378
Midnight is great because it's the one time RTD suggests that 10's fundamental way of interacting with the world might be screwed.
I think it's a more effective attack on 10 than The Waters of Mars (which is the only other one, really) because WoM presents itself almost like a 'special case' that he breaks out of at the end.

No it doesn't, its purpose was to buy him time and it completely succeeds by getting the aliens to back down even though all they have to do is fucking shoot him because he's right fucking but they're all too terrified of him because he's The Doctor.
>>68686827
>it is an episode in which the Doctor's entire shock and awe strategy goes completely wrong thanks to his pettiness and lack of care
No it doesn't. The Doctor got tricked but it's not his fault for making a big speech and River and Kovarian's criticisms of him just confirm how much of a fookin' legend/unstoppable threat he is, just viewing it from a different perspective.
>>68686827

Doesn't matter, it's still meant to impress the audience with how cool and epic it is as opposed to making the Doctor look silly and pretentious.

That one's actually not that bad on its own, I actually kind of like it because it does lead into a cool cliffhanger, but it's the fact that 11 does so much of that kind of posturing all the time. It just starts to add up.

nah, do you even remember the episode m8? they 'back down' because they were never going for the pandorica like he thinks they were in the first place, not because his speech succeeds. he looks like a total idiot because they made the pandorica to imprison him in, and that's exactly what happens.

>>68687861
depends on the pic desu
Does it ever strike you how ridiculously fucking dark the last 15 or so seconds of The Girl Who Waited actually are? As much as the ep is set up as this romantic love story of Amy and Rory and so on, what has actually been committed by the Doctor (and ultimately consented to by Old Amy and in turn Rory) is an act of violence performed to preserve the status quo - not just of the TARDIS but of the show itself. We need to delete this awkward intrusion of old, failed Amy so we can get back nice, young Amy full of possibility for future episodes.
The moment that Amy wakes up and asks "where is she?" followed by the Doctor's absolutely wordless ambiguous look at the camera is absolutely damning. The mere fact that the series will continue for the next several weeks, like nothing happened, is laid bare as the existential horror it is purely by that open ending. Because 11, Amy and Rory can easily all forget it happened, it will make no difference to their lives (and well, they never acknowledged it again on screen...) How many things like this might have happened? Conscious people consigned to time oblivion because we need the best possible outcome for our companion?
I'm blowing this up a bit, but it is quite literally the closest NuWho has got, and maybe will ever get, to what Briggs did with the end of Creatures of Beauty (not a spoiler because that story is completely different, but in the sense that it ends on a disturbing conceptual challenge to the moral legitimacy of the Doctor/show/audience).

aren't they afraid of him causing the cracks with his tardis in the future and that's why they formed an alliance against him? I guess they believe locking him in the pandorica is the surer bet to preventing whatever he does in the future to cause the cracks.
anyway that seems more a quibble about the plotting than about whether or not the aim of the speech is to make the doctor look cool & epic, and the whole why don't they just shoot him thing is a problem going back to the daleks. they don't just shoot him because he's the doctor and the show is called doctor who.
The crucial distinction is that RTD isn't interested in fan culture at all, in fact he'd probably have laughed at the very notion that fandom constitutes a culture. He didn't want to make the show for people who only like nerd shit, he wanted to make it for its traditional audience - kids and their parents. Make it for them, and the nerds will come anyway. RTD's Who is, like most of the original run, science-fiction as a means to an end, to enable interesting ethical situations and drama. Moffatt's Who has consciously targeted fan culture, to its detriment. We have stories on alien planets with no identification figures or real-world meaning, ludicrous continuity-tangling sagas that ultimately change nothing, and a companion whose entire backstory is a timey-wimey gimmick. Bill looks like a move in the right direction, back towards relatable, normal characters.

I'm 31. Even when RTD's Who looked shit, we assumed TV couldn't look any better, so 'home-made' quality wasn't a thought we had at the time. This is pre-HD remember. Most of the time we thought it looked slick.
It was sooooo emotional when the Doctor cradles the dying Master in his arms, crying and screaming REGENERATE!!!!!!!!!!!!! while bearing and gritting his teeth.
Why doesn't Moffat Who have these moments?

The guy wrote Love & Monsters, give him some credit. Yes they all get eaten by Levine's arse, but before Levine turns up, the Doctor fans form a real sense of friendship and community and branch out into doing other things.
>>68688988
Because it's for fan culture, where nothing matters emotionally because there's never an ending. Compare Marvel. Lots of bombast, no real emotional consequence, because they're there to keep you on the treadmill for the next film, always the next instalment.

>>68689138
You're proving my point, Love & Monsters is patronising in a way Moffat would never attempt. The attitude to the fans in that episode is somewhere between 'aw, bless!' and outright pisstake.
>>68689206
Please explain, in the simplest possible terms, how "there's never an ending" is true of "fan culture" in a way it is not true of Doctor Who in general. And do it quick before your logic literally topples over on itself.
>>68689294
It's just true, though?
>>68689498
Why are people sad for listening to Big Finish?
>>68689439
In the simplest possible terms: The Master and the Doctor in that episode is a dramatic climax. The camp teaser of his survival afterwards doesn't effect the sincerity of that scene. In Marvel or Moffat's Who, the reverse emphasis occurs - the emotions are fleeting, the bombast is everything, and the continuation of the story is where the emotion goes. Compare The Master's survival or not and what it meant then, to the handling of Missy's apparent death in the Moffat era. The emotional stakes cannot be there when the treadmill of product is the main concern.
>>68689424

>DOCTOR: Regenerate. Just regenerate. Please. Please! Just regenerate. Come on.
>MASTER: And spend the rest of my life imprisoned with you?
>DOCTOR: You've got to. Come on. It can't end like this. You and me, all the things we've done. Axons. Remember the Axons? And the Daleks. We're the only two left. There's no one else. Regenerate!

>CLARA: Really?

Not that guy but I listened to a few and they were pretty decent. They didn't actually have the license to use Doctor Who characters so they just had Ace use her Professor nickname all the time instead of calling him Doctor. I think eventually they had to change Ace's name too.
Is it possible to enjoy Doctor Who if you have right-wing political views?
>>68689867
That's the reverse of what I'm saying. RTD's camp was constrained by his instinct for good drama. Moffat's emotional commitment is an inch deep, and is constrained by sci-fi plot - the emotions are too reliant on your investment in the concepts.

Examples?
Moffat is really good at pottery and referencing earlier episodes. I don't think it hurts the show at all - if you don't get the reference it just acts as a throwaway world building line that makes the universe seem bigger and if you do you'll have the satisfaction of getting the reference
Like "three possible versions of Atlantis" and the "I don't want to go" at the end of DOTD, they're just cheeky little nods
>>68692356
What does your opinion being moot have to do with anything? If a carpenter builds a cabinet or a deck, it don't matter so long as he can put food in front of his daughters.
>>68692380
Not at all. There is no emotional meaning to the scene, it's just attitudinizing. The Master's final death is not going to occur because of Clara's feelings, which are meaningless because they're not about a real world situation but about sci-fi plot devices.
>>68692659
>because they're not about a real world situation but about sci-fi plot devices.
Huh? She thought it wasn't right to let The Master live after the chaos and death he causes. What do you mean by "scifi plot device"
>>68692659
>Clara's feelings, which are meaningless because they're not about a real world situation but about sci-fi plot devices.
her boyfriend dying is a sci fi plot device?
>>68692524
The scene we're talking about, for one. Generally, the big feelings in his stuff are about big feelings in life, whereas the camp surrounds the more otherworldly stuff. Compare Rose's life to Amy's. The latter doesn't make sense emotionally because it's constantly bent around wacky shit that could happen with time travel. RTD: what if using time travel, you met your mum before she had you? How would that feel? Audience: Wow. :_O
Moffat: what if your friend was your kid but also this older woman who used to go out with this guy you had a thing on before your boyfriend who you'd forgotten waited for literal millenia and you realised how important that was and then... Audience: u wot m8
>>68692659
>The Master's final death is not going to occur because of Clara's feelings,
Nor was it going to occur because of the Doctor's feelings in LOTTL so what's your point?
>which are meaningless because they're not about a real world situation but about sci-fi plot devices.
Is having your long-time nemesis who you have an ambiguously homoerotic relationship with refuse to save his own life because he would be imprisoned by you and you being sad because he was the last of your species and the only possible companion who could live as long as you a real world situation not dependent on scifi plot devices? The whole impact of LOTTL depends on the Doctor and the Master's non-realistic history as non-realistic characters so I don't know how can praise the ending of that story and dismiss DIH.

Actual bereavement exists. The death of someone you have stuff in common with that nobody else has, exists. That Tennant scene is unrelated to any of what the Master does in that story, it's purely about their relationship. Clara's emotions (which aren't being seriously offered as pro-capital punishment sentiment because then we'd really have a hot potato on our hands) are about something that didn't and couldn't happen, that isn't assimilable to anything the audience have ever experienced or will ever experience.

>>68693498
He doesn't know what you're talking about because he hasn't seen the episode,he's just seen clips and read summaries.
>>68693158
The thing is, it felt like it actually could in LOTTL. RTD had dumped enough of the continuity that he might have considered never returning to the Master, and the Doctor's reaction felt like real grief. The way things are now, it can't.
No, the impact has nothing to do with that, the core of the emotion is a human one which will come to all of us - losing your contemporaries to death. That's why the general public watched and enjoyed that era of the show - RTD knows how to bring it back to shit we can identify with. Moffat turns every emotional milestone into a time-pretzel.
>>68693079
I understand what you're saying, and I agree to an extent. RTD's characters were much more human – and much more believable – than some of Moffat's. Moffat went too far down the "most important companion in the universe" track.

>>68694716
The point is the Master actively choosing not to regenerate, so yes regeneration is important. He's not just dying, he's committing suicide to avoid being with the Doctor. How many people can relate to that?
This entire conversation just reads like someone read the following Phil paragraph on A Christmas Carol and took it too much to heart, then slapped an extra load of unsubstantiated waffle on top.
>The result marks a significant shift in the goals of the show. The Davies era was full of emotional storytelling, but in almost every case it was about taking ordinary emotions and setting them in an epic, sci-fi context. This story, however, asks something very different: the audience is expected to learn to empathize with Kazran as he experiences fundamentally bizarre things that are outside the realm of human experience. The question of when you choose to spend your last day with the woman you love is one that barely has a reference point in human experience. More even than “what is it like to be the last of your kind,” which is really just a special case of loneliness, the bizarre and isolating power that Kazran has is something that is genuinely uncanny. This reflects a fundamental shift in the series. Davies elevated common emotion and drama to the epic. Moffat, on the other hand, takes austere and unfathomable circumstances and makes them human.

>>68695343
It's not important to the emotional meaning it was intended to have for the average viewer, no. It's a death scene. It was never previously stated that one could fail to regenerate at will - regeneration was just what Time Lords' bodies did. In that scene, the purpose of the sci-fi plot element is to provide the pretext for the human, relatable emotion.

PHUCKING PHEEL THE SHAME
Clara facing her impending death has more of a reference point in human experience (i.e. terminal illness) than 10 being forced to wipe Donna's memory because her higher intelligence will destroy her mind. Although perhaps both of those are outliers for their respective showrunners, I really don't think this distinction is as meaningful or clear cut as it's talked up to be.
>>68695713
The point of Donna's memory wipe is how her mother patronised her all her life, and how she now has to return to that life. It's one of the most haunting things RTD ever did. Also, how did Clara's impending death turn out?
>>68695876
>Also, how did Clara's impending death turn out?
This conversation is about emotional impact, unless I missed something.
Face The Raven aired at a time when no-one in the audience knew what would occur later.
As such, Clara's death in Face The Raven is absolutely set up as an emotional death scene. No hint or suggestion that she will be revived is given. The 'point' of the scene, so to speak, is unambiguously Clara's attempt to deal with her unavoidable impending death, and her attempt to console the Doctor about it.
>The point of Donna's memory wipe is how her mother patronised her all her life, and how she now has to return to that life
But it won't even be her returning. The wipe of her memory will constitute a fundamental rewriting of her personality, she won't even be living with the regret of what could have been. The audience will be unhappy, but she won't even know.
