I thought it would be this but I still don't see the appeal
yet I was fine with Big Lebowski and Inherent Vice
What gives? I don't even know why I find it so annoying

What if I told you I've never seen The Big Lebowski, despite all the hype and love for The Dude?
Should I torrent it once I get off the pot and go back to my computer?

This.
Pretty much any 'stoner-noir' film like Inherent Vice, Big Lebowski, or pic related.

i think blade runner definitely gets better as the pieces start to fall in place and come together and maybe getting older helps you connect with it on the right levels more effectively, but at the same time it gets worse as you pick up on the handful of mistakes and oddities that don't really make sense, even if some are explainable.
for these reasons its not good to do rewatches so close together, gotta space em out and try to keep it somewhat fresh. definitely sharp diminishing returns beyond a certain point.still my favorite movie. masterpiece of using simple storytelling to touch on a ton of ideas, and the landmark aesthetics and atmosphere still set the standard. you really cant beat well done practical effects. add in underrated performances and a great score.. i just wish it could live up to its reputation on the first watch. even those that love it usually have to go back and find more.
oh well
It just keep getting better

I just watched that for the first time this past Wednesday. I want to watch it again ASAP, my initial impression is that it's a critique/metaphor of the war in Iraq?

Nope. That's just set dressing. The key to the Big Lebowski is not to think about it too deeply. You'll miss the forest for the trees, which is what the Dude was doing with his 'investigation.' He got hung up on all the details and didn't see what was actually going on.

That's what I try to do the first time o watch something. By that system, it was one of the most amusing movies I've ever seen. I loved and identified with the characters, and the scenery and sets were nice as well. "You are entering a world of pain!"
