You'd love Dirk Gently books OP, there's a scene where the detective main character does exactly that prompting the cab driver to express surprise at how this is the first time it's happened to him, how he doesn't need to go excitingly fast because he can tell where the other car is going by shared taxi driver habits, and then complains to the MC about depictions of taxi drivers in the media.
