Dillane didn't like the show. He was the perfect actor for Stannis. He is literally like Stannis irl. It's a shame he's gone because he is one of the best actors the show had and a perfect Stannis, but D&D fucked up his characterization so much that it's kind of a relief that it's over. He deserved better and the book Stannis plot, but David and Dan hate Stannis and don't understand his motivations so they decided to ruin him and make him a full-on villain. In retrospect it should have been clear from season 2 when he wasn't so bad, but they said in a behind the scenes extra that Stannis would unquestionably be a horrible king and Renly would have been better and Stannis only cared about power.
Stannis is the only true Capekino.
