I think it's interesting how much they fixate on the "bloody vengeance" thing, given the history of the country. For the last 20 years or so, I think they've got the best cinema of any Asian nation, from an American perspective anyway

I think it's great. I Saw The Devil is one of my favorite revenge films to watch and to show to other people.

I Saw the Devil is my least favorite from that director, to be honest. I can understand why people like it, but something prevents me.
Was a highlight of cinema in the 00's and early 10's, getting a bit stale now though

But it's true to an extent. The last couple great Korean movies from the last two years were probably A Bad Day and The General. All the best stuff were from 2012 and before.

New World is from 2013. It's a bit slow and talky (for a modern Korean movie, atleast), but got based Min-Sik Choi, a fucking incredibly parking complex fight and is pretty dark and poetic. I liked it.
There's also the The Shameless (2015), which is reeeeeaaally slow and talky, but it's pretty cute and nice, definitely one of the better lvoe stories I've seen the few recent years,

Memories of Murder and The Chaser are the only good Korean thrillers of the 2000's. When people recommend shit like I Saw the Devil you know they're struggling.
American cinema is superior.
