>nothing special

You can't judge cinematography of a sequence off a single frame which is why I think this thread is so dumb. You seem to be judging a "good shot" on frame density at any given moment (it's so dense etc...) rather than the context and feel of the actual shot itself. The shot you posted from Fury Road was visually stimulating, but really no different than the rest of the movie which was essentially 2 hours of heavy metal album covers. The Sicario shot anon posted was a tense moment and one of a handful that showed off well filmed operator action while displaying naturally beautiful scenery and great camera work. Most shots that we will post are "better" for this reason. What you posted isn't even the best shot of Fury Road, the entire movie is full of scenes like that which in my opinion makes them stand out less.
>>
>>68183914
Yes, I do. I think your fondness of Mad Max is clouding your judgement just a bit.

Nice try at desperately twisting words when you have no valid response and blatantly ignoring the valid points you typical braindead autist.

First of all, never said the shots were "great". They weren't. I thoroughly explained why they weren't. All those shots had going for them was the visuals, all the impact of the visuals is severely dampened when you have similar shots all throughout the movie.
>>
>>68184901

Fooling you apparently since you keep replying. Mad Max never stood a chance against the other nominees for best cinematography. Therefore the shot in the OP is clearly not the greatest of 2015. Sucks to be you.

The Revenant and The Assassin were both a little better shot, but Mad Max deserves a spot in the conversation.

I don't get why the flamethrower is the part that makes people jiz their pants. Everything before the flame thrower is top notch
>>
>>68186109
Yes, he's saying that the whole movie is visually stimulating but because it is present throughout no shot stands out, that is to say outstanding.

Also, I think you're not understanding because you're probably thinking that a good shot and cinematography is only about good visuals, which is not the case.
>>
>>68183401
Shit lighting.
>>
>>68186209
Not the guy you're replying to, but I think the visuals in fury road are much more informing or cinematic than say sicario. Sicario is just a bunch of "woah bro so tacticool just like my call of duties", in mad max the visuals are informing the narrative and characters.
>>
>>
>>68186012
Despite being shot almost entirely in a cabin, Hateful Eight had some outstanding cinematography. It stands out more on a rewatch.
>>
>>68186201
because why not. the absurdity of that cars was the good part. the flamethower just took it to the 11.
>>
>>68186082
He's a teenaged crossboarder who has no actual interest in discussing film and thinks the entire point of the board is to disagree and find excuses to hurl invective he never gets to use in real life. Probably from /v/ or /b/. There's been an influx of them in the past year or so on /tv/.

>>68186109
Regardless of what Awards shows you deem as valid, there's still the American Society of Cinematographers, who also gave the awards to someone else.

You've clearly shown a lack of reading comprehension and lack of understanding when it comes to cinematography. You might as well not post at all if all you're going to do is greentext half sentence responses and attach an epic reaction image. You're in a slow moving thread full of people who know you're an idiot, continuing to act like an idiot isn't going to get you the last word or the moral high ground here.
>>
>>68186382

>>
>>68186291
>mad max the visuals are informing the narrative and characters

>whoa bro X is chasing Y in this extended chase scene

>whoa bro now another chase scene is happening and X is chasing Y again!

Try to articulate your points next time, as anything can be trivialized using the juvenile tactic you just pulled. Leave the middle school debate class shit on /v/ or wherever you come from.
>>
>>68186291
The checkstop shootout in Sicario says more about the motivations, resolve, and abilities of the characters involved than any shot in Fury Road.
>>
>>68186484
Coupled with the set design, the shots inform you about the world of the movie without stopping the movie to explain things, a few examples I can think of are the steering wheel shrine and the swamp walkers. It's nice world building done in a natural fluid way.
>>
>>68186556
That was probably the best scene in the movie. Personally though, I found it to be overall pretty forgettable and mediocre. But hey, that's just my opinion man
>>
>>68186557
What were the swamp walkers and what are they even doing?
>>
>>68186600
That's the point, it doesn't have to be explained you autist. It makes the world feel large and mysterious.
>>
>>68186557
>swamp walkers

Those are valid points and this in particular was my favorite shot of the movie. But shots like that are few and far between and take a backseat to the loud over the top convoy shots which is what everyone defaults to (OP included) when Fury Roads cinematography is brought up.
>>
>>68186635
I was just asking, haven't even seen the movie, just saw the shot and thought it looked cool. Geez, way to be on the defensive.

The best shot in the Revenant is when the camera is going through the birch forest and it begins to snow. I still have no clue how they got that shot
>>

>>
>>68186770
I 100% agree and the movie is very re-watchable for those reasons. But at the same time I can see how other movies throughout the year where filmed in a technically better and more artistic way when you really sit down and pick them apart. I was kind of surprised Revenant was the one to overtake Fury Road. Remove the all natural lighting and the cinematography loses most of its appeal. I think that movie in general didn't deserve its Oscars but that's another story.

Remember that time in Return of the King where an amazonian community of female warriors called the "Many Mothers" fought alongside a female war general who was saving girls from a dictator who enslaved women in order to harvest their breast milk and was over-concerned with having a male heir? Like it couldn't be more obvious.

Do you look for things to be triggered about like modern feminists? It makes perfect sense in context of the movie, sure you can argue it has feminist overtones but it's hardly what the movie is about. Everyone would've been fucked if max hadn't been there
>>
>>68188142
I'm not triggered at all. I enjoyed Fury Road. It's just clearly a feminist film. It's not just "overtones," like it's 80s dystopian fiction written by a tattooed lesbian who hates men tier feminism. That's sort-of why I like it; it's so unabashed in its world view.
