Why does no one on /tv/ ever talk about the highest box office movie?

It's as if this movie doesn't exist anymore.
>>
because aвaтap killed himself
>>
>>68177943
>aвaтap
umm say again?
>>
It's a spectacle of effects, what's there to talk about? It didn't care for its narrative, didn't try to break ground in framing or composition or acting. It just wanted to be a good special effects movie, aced that, but that's not going to leave the biggest of traces.
>>
>>68177943
This is what butthurt haters actually believe.

Cry more.
>>
>>68177914
because it really doesnt
it was a 3D spectacle, there is nothing to talk about or take away from it as long as it isnt in theaters
>>
Because nobody remembers it. It was forgettable and was more a showcase of CGI technology and effects rather than an actual film.

It made so much money at the box office because:
1. James Cameron's name was attached to a sci-fi movie

2. People were excited to see a digital 3D movie for the first time

3. 3D tickets are more expensive than regular tickets
>>
>>68177998
But what about the sequels? Cameron is making 3 more (oh help us all).
>>
>>68177914
perfect things don't really leave much to add, so there's very little to discuss. IE:
-avatar
-silicon valley
-rick & morty
etc
>>
Much like Force Awakens, it had nothing memorable or unique. It's story and characters were forgettable and bland, all it offered was a visual spectacle, that leaves no lasting impression.
>>
greatest movie of all time that changed cinema forever
>>
>>68177943
This
>>68177983
Nice try
>>
>>68177914
Don't worry.
When based Cameron finally delivers on Avatar 2, 4chan will need a separate board to even discuss this gift to art and even then, the only threads that'll appear on /tv/ will be Avatar 2 threads.
Don't even get me started on the box office. It's expected to get America out of their national debt.
>>
Because despite the amazing visuals it was at its core not a very interesting movie.
>>
>>68178052
Not that guy, but I'm mildly excited for the sequels.

3D is old news, so the Avatar sequels will be Cameron's chance to fuck around with a sci-fi/fantasy IP that we've only been briefly exposed to before.

Of course, without any solid details, photos or a trailer, I can only get so excited for them.

well Avatar 2 will be almost entirely underwater from what I read. Wonder how he will pull that off

Avatar is still a lot better and has more lasting appeal than any boring superhero movie from the last 4 years. I'm fully confident that Avatar 2 will be fantastic science fiction film when it is eventually released. This is the same guy who made Aliens and Terminator we're talking about. He must've been preparing very hard for the last 5 years.

what? you write one of the most comical troll posts of the week and you don't expect someone to laugh at you?
>>
>>68177914

What's there to talk about?
>>
>>68178351
meh nope. Batman v Superman is way more memorable than Avatar. Way better acting, way better story.

Avatar really wasn't a bad movie like some people say, but... "lasting appeal"? Nobody even remembers what the fuck happened in the movie. Do you seriously think the average person can even name one character from Avatar?

It basically doesn't now. A sequel was promised seven years ago and it hasn't even come close to happening yet.

The story, imagery and themes in Avatar have plenty of lasting appeal. It's a classical tale reinvented with a new scenario for a new audience. Needless to say, it has more lasting appeal than Iron Man 6 and Captain America 8.
>>
>>68177914

Like many have said ..when you take away the fx what's actually left to talk about?

Really not hyped for anymore of them.
>>
>>68178613
Cameron is not Disney. He's going to perfect it first.
>>
>>68177914
Ok so this is what I remember happening in this film

>disabled military guy Jake Sully gets sent into the program to replace his dead brother
>Sigourney Weaver is a scientist working on this program
>Evil Quaritch military man wants to kill innocent blue people to get Unobtainium
>Jake Sully turns into a blue person to negotiate or something
>Jake falls in love with Neytiri? Was that her name? Native blue chick
>Jake decides to side with the blue people, and they fight Quaritch and his guys and there are helicopter things and Michelle Rodriguez is there
>They fight off Quaritch and win and Sigourney Weaver dies, I think, maybe Michelle Rodriguez also died
>The blue people soul tree gets destroyed

I don't remember anything else from the film
>>
>>68178766

its a kino not a film
>>
>>68177914
I think it can only mean the movie succeded at not falling into the pit of meme culture. It does not feature tumblr and memeworthy moments enough to become a parroted cultural phenomenon among aspie fedora kids thus there's not many talking about it, despite the quality being objectively better than 95% of capeshit and soulless mass entertainment engines churned out everyday. People are just stupid, that's all there really is to it. With all that said it's a solid 7/10.
>>
>>68178895

Or it was just really forgettable. Not saying the majority of superhero movies aren't either. I think 7/10 is a little high. It got really campy at times.

I was bored to tears. My friend fell asleep and I had to nudge him. Then he played with his phone several times. It was shit. He said it was 'Meh!' at the end too. I myself felt no emotional impact whatsoever and when Superfuck copped it I also went 'Meh!' especially at the dirt rising shit.
>>
Avatar sold a lot of HDTV's (with or without 3D). It's a great showcase movie for HJD. Shame it was only shot and rendered at 2K though. There will be no true UHD release.

>especially at the dirt rising shit.
It's as if Snyder based this scene off the ending of League of Extraordinary Gentleman when Sean Connery's character comes back to life as you see the dirt and gun moving on his grave.

I still very much enjoyed all Affleck's scenes in BvS.
>>
All you are contrarian faggots that ignore the simple truth about this movie.

>story was utter shit, a complete cliché
>visually breathtaking

Kind of the same as with Tron allthough I'd rate Tron higher for having the GOAT soundtrack.
>>
>>68178267
He'll probably pull it off UNDER FUCKING WATER because Cameron is a nut.

The guy went down the Mariana Trench FOR FUN.

>It's as if this movie doesn't exist anymore

The movie helped illustrate that about modern blockbusters, it wasn't the 3D which made it spectacular, it was whether Cameron could make a best seller which was in anyway memorable. Something changed in the 90s and early 00s about cinema where studios stopped attempting to produce anything with depth and just focused on capitalist venture and gain, though I guess you can say Goddard is correct in this area, America only care about producing funny quips on t-shirts, look at the highest grossing films of all time. Notice anything? Not one of them has any memorable scene or quote.

That was fucking awful anon. That cgi of a young Jeff Bridges was one of the worst things I ever did see.

For some reason i read it as Michael Rodriguez..weird.
>>
>>68179508
Yup the most recent indeed.

Well yeah you cherrypick the only thing that was mediocre about it, and even that didnt bother me at all because he was supposed to be a digital representation of Bridges' character.
>>
>>68179591
hahah wow so weird xD
>>
>>68179635
The bit at beginning before he went missing wasn't meant to be a computerised version of him?

And besides that was a shit film.

I went to see this when it came out, and if it wasnt for the effects id have asked for a refund

>>68177914
Why don't we talk about District 9 every day, Edge of Tomorrow every day, Pacific Rim every day?

They're not nearly as memeable as jedis, stormtroopers and an overabundance of capeshit. That's why

It's getting a sequel, they confirmed the writers for the screenplay recently.
>>
>>68180230

I'm surprised it's getting a sequel considering it flopped. Also that story wise, it's hard to see where they would go.

It was an utterly mediocre movie that only did was to show off the technology it used.

Years from now, people will only watch the film because it's the highest grossing movie of all time, and not because of anything else.
>>
Because it was fucking unmemorable. It was good while it lasted, but that's it.
