Try again, it took me 2 or 3 tries to actually enjoy it. You just have to be aware this isn't something you can watch with your brain turned off I think, to keep up with everything that's going on and all the characters you need to be actively paying attention. If you do you'll be rewarded with comfortably the best tv show ever imo

Yeah it stands out a level above anything else imo. The Sopranos is an incredible character piece but it still feels like you're watching a tv show. The Wire just has everything, a reality and a weight to every character and every decision they make that no other show can match.
Several novels have stayed with me long after the time I finished them but The Wire is the only tv show that's ever been the case with for me.
