I rematched this show with a friend recently and we realized the entire show is basically a kid's metaphor for prison and candy was drugs.
There's even an episode where Budnick says "the flow of candy into camp has dried up" and "tell my supplier to the leave the next shipment in the hollow tree" etc. etc.
Pretty fucking funny for a kid's show.

I can't speak for the other but I can absolutely vouch for Pete and Pete. It was practically one of a kind. I'm pretty sure Hey Dude and Salute Your Shorts were the only kid friendly sitcoms that also used a single camera setup and no laugh track like Pete and Pete. P&P had way better writing and directing though.
