Why do films have to look like real life?
Watching the original trilogy, we all knew those spaceships and lasers weren't real.
Who decided that when it comes to film, CGI looks shit if it "doesn't look real"? Can't it just be another means of telling the story?
How do you feel if an actor is recast? Is it "unrealistic"? What if someone's dialogue is dubbed and doesn't exactly match their mouth movements?

the difference is in the originals they made models put them on stings and filmed them, then added effects on afterwards to give them thruster exhaust.
It looks like the best cgi ever because they were real the only fake thing about it was the lasers engines and sound effects.
Even the deathstars were real models.

This. I think the animated shows are getting hilariously close to matching the prequel's CG. Not really a fault against the work, since technically advances but the fact that it was so heavily relied upon is what makes it so bad.

it's aged horribly, but it must have been amazing compared to the other cgi and video came graphics at the time.
