Nothing. It exposed the comic as overrated trash
It's a stupid decision to adapt Watchmen in the first place.
Watchmen is a piece of critical literature. It's a deconstruction of capeshit comics and a close examination at the psychology that feeds into it. By adapting it into film, you remove the literary context.
It's also a book that's quite heavy on time context. Nowadays, we know the world didn't end in a nuclear war and we were never seconds away from doom. When Watchmen released however, that was different. By adapting it to film in the modern day, you're removing it of period context.

Knocking out Joe Chill in the beginning forever cemented Batman as a cuck.
Licensed music and some overdone fight scenes. Other than that it's pretty fucking solid.
But given that it relies on a dense original work, of course Average Joe wasn't going to give a shit and even try to understand anything beyond "benis XDD".

Too dark, there is not enough comedy and quips to balance the gloom

I also think they rushed too much into the Watchmen movie. Some characters definitely needed an origin movie or a trilogy
I didn't understand the black freighter shit too, was it the grandparent of the comedian or some relative?
Not enough team fights
I watched the movie before I read the comic. The comic is WAY better... so dense... i keep finding little details in the comic that blow my mind... like the way that black kid and that magazine stand guy blow up at the end looking like that blood drop on comedians smiley face pin. The movie was awesome tho... dont know why it gets so much hate

The casting for everyone else seemed like a good choice, as far as their looks go, except for pic related.
He doesn't work without that old school natty mr. olymia physique and that dopey aw-shucks kind of face, instead you get this rat faced scrawney goon that oozes "Im the bad guy."
