Grevious probably has a repuation of being really tall and scary which he didn't live up to in person and Anakin being the absolute rascal that he is pointed it out to Greavious embarrassment. Even as a kid I instantly figured that out.

Yeah, that entire fight scene was such a let down. The first time you see it and Grevious starts approaching him with all the spinning lightsabers it looks like he's really about to get fucked, but then they clash and it turns into just another tame choreographed ballet dance.
