How is that pretentious? It's true. The Thin Red Line is just like any Terrence Malick movie. It's a heavy-handed pseudodeep meditation on the human condition and the meaning of life and suffering. It's bad like all his flims. Maybe there are guns and uniforms but it isn't about WW2.

In all seriousness, Avatar can be called an artistic achievement in terms of effects and cinematography without sacrificing plot, even though I'm not a huge fan of it.
Beyond the Black Rainbow was visually and stylistically very interesting.
